The Spanish American War was no coincidence, certainly America had a broad set of interests in play, none the less, William Randolph Heasrt was not wrong, the Spanish were indeed the antithesis to the Empire of Liberty, at the gates of the republic itself.

This is not to say that there are not dissidents in the republic, there certainly are, the Copperheads and Doughfaces persist, but they are none the less, the minority faction, by many orders of magnitude, intermittent war weariness notwithstanding.

Indeed, anyone who has lived amongst them, knows how ruthless they can be about maintaining the center at any cost, if Americans think militarized policing is rough in America, they ought to try Spain sometime, they make the LAPD look like Barney the Dinosaur.Speaker to Animals wrote:Yep. Meh, I have faith in the center, to put the Copperheads and Doughfaces down, when the time comes, America is not Spain, the jackboot is there, but it's only brought out as a last resort, and we're nowhere near that again yet.

I mean, the reality is, Return to Normalcy 2.0 is in the drivers seat here, the Empire of Liberty is not imperiled from within, that's just the wishful blather of Copperheads and Doughfaces conflating war weariness with a revolt.
