Re: Hurricane Irma Thread AKA Floridian Devastation
I believe it. I have known enough Puerto Ricans to understand how fucked up the government is down there. It's highly probable they went full commie and are fucking it up royally right now.
Not that there is much we can do about it. It would take an absolutely massive expeditionary force to go in there and do the job of the PR government. This is an island over a thousand miles away from Miami harbor. The nearest major naval yard is in Jacksonville. There lives about 3.4 million people on that island.
This could potentially be a huge disaster right now and we wouldn't know it because there is not much footage getting out.
To do what these idiot leftists are talking about is equivalent to an invasion of a small nation. It would cost us a lot of money and it would come with some serious costs in terms of lives and control over that island.

They need water and power first. It's not impossible to get that going. I've been there and it's not the third world. It's similar to one of our poorer states.

I do believe Lefty's are trying to 'Katrina' Trump............. don't you ? 92% of the coverage of Trump has been negative. Why would anyone doubt they trying to make Trump look bad.
Now, as to whether or not the Mayor is withholding. As I stated, it's a report. It is yet to be seen. This mayor was making Anti-Trump statements within 48 hours of the election in 2016. Would she withhold supplies from her own people, maybe.
When you do these types of operations, you come into the affected area, go to the local government and ask, what do you need. They will tell you. Then you get it to the local government. It is not unheard of for local officials to hoard, steal or sell supplies items intended for the people they are supposed to be representing.

I'm sorry, that sounds more like paranoia. It's not based on fact. However, going on emotion, I can't stand Trump but I certainly wouldn't withhold aid from my town to make him look bad. (I didn't withhold aid from Christie.) Christie took aid from Obama for his state. Everyone takes aid from every administration during a crisis. There is no factual or ethical basis to make that kind of acusation. I don't think Bush deliberately screwed over NOLA either.C-Mag wrote:I do believe Lefty's are trying to 'Katrina' Trump............. don't you ? 92% of the coverage of Trump has been negative. Diverting or hoarding supplies does happen, but again, you are ascribing evil and widespread motives when you have no factual or even reasonable basis to accuse this woman. If it's just about what could have happened, one could just as easily posit that Trump had someone make that call for vengeance.

How fast exactly do you think we can do that? This island is a thousand miles away from Miami. Bear that in mind. We can feasibly deliver the material they need to do it themselves, but if their government is totally incompetent (which does seem to be the case), that's not going to do much good.

Please define, specifically, what party is doing the "diverting" and/or the "hoarding."MilSpecs wrote:Diverting or hoarding supplies does happen

It's not totally incompetent. It has remote areas but a normal roads infrastructure in the populated areas, power and generating stations, hospitals, etc. It's similar to one of our poorer states.
And Hawaii is over twice the distance away.

I have no idea since I try not to make unsubstantiated accusations. I have, however, heard of things falling off trucks.Fife wrote:Please define, specifically, what party is doing the "diverting" and/or the "hoarding."MilSpecs wrote:Diverting or hoarding supplies does happen

OK, what is the substance behind your accusation that diverting/hoarding supplies happens?

Because people have been arrested in the U.S. for stealing government issued items in the past. Surely you have heard of such a crime occurring during your career?Fife wrote:You have no idea?MilSpecs wrote:I have no idea since I try not to make unsubstantiated accusations.
