I read it when the TV series came out. Loved that book. I learned all the Japanese I know from it. Went on to binge all the Kurosawa movies. Taipan wasn't as good.

What made it less good? Was it still worth reading?

Books I’m reading or recently finished:

The 7 Habits of Higly Successful People (fantastic book)
The Haunting of Hill House
Four Past Midnight
"Hey varmints, don't mess with a guy that's riding a buffalo"

For most people what habit is the most reoccurring and useful for the most people?

Well, all seven sort of work off of each other, but if I could magically instill one of them in humanity it would probably be #2 - “Begin with the ending in mind”. As humans we blindly stumble through way too much of our lives and constantly react to the pressures of the moment. Imagine acting (and reacting) with your ultimate goal firmly in mind, rather than with what is expedient for the current situation. Much better decision-making. Much better outcomes.

That book is shit. Read Sapiens. Since Harari is a vegan, he should have just titled the sequel Homo. But the second book is a crock of futurist horseshit, where he just jerks off thinking about transhumanism all the while forgetting every lesson he himself discovered in his first book.

I loved Sapiens. This one isn’t capturing me as much, but still much food for thought.

I need to get started on DBTrek’s list.
