the Biden Administration has announced that US entities will be blocked from buying Russian state bonds

this is typically Neoliberalist, they show weakness militarily but then try to attack with financial weapons

the result would only be to punish the Russian people

this idea in the Neoliberal mind is that you punish the people, then they overthrow their government

but the actual result is that the populations tend to blame foreign intervention

causing them to rally around their government all the more

never mind that if you destabilize Russia somehow in the end, that's like every other regime change

it always turns out to be a quagmire which blows up in America face

but this one would blow up with 7,000 thermonuclear warheads in play

near as I can tell there are two Neoconservative factions in the Biden Administration vying for control

one I will call the Russia Hawks

that's Tony Blinken, Victoria Nuland & Lloyd Austin at State & Defense

they want a confrontation with Putin in Ukraine with NATO over the Black Sea

the other faction I will call the China Hawks

that's National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan & Director of Central Intelligence William Burns

they want a ceasefire with Russia so America can shift to confronting China in the Western Pacific

things are therefor lurching back and forth between these two priorities incoherently at this juncture

one day Biden is calling Putin for a summit and standing down in the Black Sea

the next day Biden blows his own summit up with Putin by imposing sanctions & expelling Russian diplomats

Carrot and stick.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Carrot and stick.
not really, the Germans already gave the Russians the carrot of the Nordstream 2 pipeline

Germany is feeding the Russian beast far more than sanctions are hurting

with massive petroleum revenue coming from the EU, NATO is effectively funding its own adversary

again, Biden called a summit, then the very next day did something which would obviously blow that summit up

incoherent on the face of it, reversing course within twenty four hours

it's not carrot & stick, it's running away while shooting over your shoulder

The offer of a summit didn't get the required result, hence the stick.

there was no time to even determine that it didn't get a result, hence the incoherence

they effectively reversed course literally overnight before any result would be knowable

the signs of factions pulling the POTUS back & forth is glaring

the Russia Hawks have Turkey, Poland & Ukraine gung-ho to confront Russia

well, not the Ukrainian population, but Zelensky is below 30% approval, so he needs something to rally around

the China Hawks side with Britain, France & Germany who all think Ukraine is trying to drag NATO into the fight

the UK is joining with the China Hawks, deploying the RN carrier strike task force to the Pacific

France is deploying SSN's to the Pacific as well

on one day the White House narrative was that two DDG-51's were on their way to the Black Sea

Turkey confirmed that they were about to transit the Bosporus

then the very next day the story completely changed

suddenly the DDG-51's were going to Crete

the WH claimed that the story of transiting the Bosporus was "Russian Disinformation"

the story lurches around from hour to hour, with the WH blatantly lying about what it said just the day before
