Meh, whatever, the Olympics is really just the sporting event for non sports fans, as a sports fan, I don't give a shit about the Olympics so long as they aren't cutting into the real sports, when the NHL was there, that forced me to watch the Olympics, but if they're not there and rather here, I can easily ignore the Olympics.StCapps wrote:It wouldn't have been trash if the IOC had any business sense. They may not need the NHL, but they are leaving a lot of money on table, like dummies, just to play their silly game of chicken.Smitty-48 wrote:The Olympic hockey tournament is trash, but the NHL is on another channel, ergo, no problemo.

Plus I'm a huge IIHF World Championship fan, that's more than good enough international hockey for me, I don't need to have every single NHL superstar at the tournament, the Worlds is extremely high quality hockey, and that's really what I care about.

I do. I like best on best, the World Championship is nice, but that isn't what it is, and neither is the World Cup, with it's gimmick teams neutering Team Canada and Team USA of it's best young talent. There is no adequate replacement for the Olympics with NHL players, that's one of my issues with the NHL not going, though I blame the IOC more than the NHL for that.Smitty-48 wrote:Plus I'm a huge IIHF World Championship fan, that's more than good enough international hockey for me, I don't need to have every single NHL superstar at the tournament, the Worlds is extremely high quality hockey, and that's really what I care about.
If the Canada Cup was still around, I wouldn't care at all, but it isn't, so I do.

Well then I guess the IOC can get to you, but they don't bother me, Spengler Cup quality hockey is not enough to pull me away from NHL, AHL, CHL, IIHF, and NHL, AHL, CHL, and IIHF, is plenty of hockey for me.StCapps wrote:I do. What impact does the IOC have on the Preds post season, the Cards preseason, the Vols March madness, the Vols or Titans offseasons?
Yeah, that's what I thought.
Rock on NBC.

Some people just don't think best on best national teams is as important as I do, I suppose, and they are willing to settle for less. If I'm forced to, I'll settle, but it's not optimal. Bring back the Canada Cup.

The Preds big guns being dragged all the way across the world to Korea, would be burning fuel they need for the Cup run, it would have an impact, if the event is in North America, that's different, but going all those time zones away and playing a super intense tournament, right in the middle of the stretch drive? That can harm a contenders chances, make no mistake, that's burning your Stanley Cup gas for Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, etcetera.Fife wrote:What impact does the IOC have on the Preds post season,

The big thing that really changed for me, since the last two Olympics, is that the Leafs don't suck anymore, the Leafs are actually on the march, and making some real progress for a change, so at this point, sending the Leafs big guns to Korea, would just be a big pain in ass to no particular utility to the Leafs.

So bring back the Canada Cup, problem solved. They ain't going to Korea, and when they players do go, it will be at a more convenient time for all involved.Smitty-48 wrote:The big thing that really changed for me, since the last two Olympics, is that the Leafs don't suck anymore, the Leafs are actually on the march, and making some real progress for a change, so at this point, sending the Leafs big guns to Korea, would just be a big pain in ass to no particular utility to the Leafs.

Meh, it's not the same without the Soviets. Bring the Soviets back, and then I might care, but without Red Army, the Canada Cup would be no different than the NHL World Cup.StCapps wrote:So bring back the Canada Cup, problem solved.Smitty-48 wrote:The big thing that really changed for me, since the last two Olympics, is that the Leafs don't suck anymore, the Leafs are actually on the march, and making some real progress for a change, so at this point, sending the Leafs big guns to Korea, would just be a big pain in ass to no particular utility to the Leafs.
