I find it amazing that no one expects politicians to keep their promises. They say anything to get elected then only serve the people who provide the money. No one even expects Trump to do these things yet he does. It gives one pause...

We are so used to seeing polished politicians that when a normal person (Trump) comes along, he seems scary. But if you think about it, he acts like your friends, he acts like the people who post to this forum, he acts like someone who has off-the-cuff conversations. It's odd how we trust our friend to pick us up at the airport even though they're unsophisticated buffoons. I've read that the early presidents were also goofy, profane, uncouth men. The era of modern politics has made it so that only a certain kind of untrustworthy but smooth person can be elected.

I Hope I shall get out to protest President Trump one day.
If he should keep all his promises, which is almost unimaginable--almost--I will lead the march on Washington, bearing a great banner.

And this is why I like him so much.

This was going to happen no matter who won the election. If Hillary won, it would be red states deciding to ignore the federal government.

This shit isn't working out. Obviously.

So what are the chances of an honest, good o'le fashioned constitutional crisis? I have no doubt the Hair God is willing to send in Federal Troops to keep the states in line, but Does CA actually have the balls to use their Nat Guard to combat the Feds? and even if they did, what are the chances the Nat Guard members would actually follow the Governor's orders? Met thinks it far more likely that the Nat Guard commanders will say the Governor is a traitor and seize power. So then, in reality, CA has no chance at all of remaining a "sanctuary" state unless they go for secession. CA is just grandstanding in the hope that the Hair God will back down....lolz....go ahead and withhold your tax money - as we've already gone over, your emigration trend will soon crush you....You really are a ship of fools.

Let CA and the northwest leave the Union and form a country. I would be more than happy to use the tax revenues of the remaining states pay for the liberals and illegals to move there, and then build a giant ass wall and a moat having sharks with laser beams.

Seriously though, why not just give the left the West Coast and be done with them?

There's lots of loyal, that is to say, patriotic, Californians who don't want to leave the U.S. It would probably be a good thing if California attempts to cuck the feds. It would be like the school segregation thing in the South: if the feds are successful, Cal's Dems will be discredited, and if Cal wins, Trump will go Civil War on them (and not the virtual kind). One-way-or-another, the problem would be solved.

Then they better get their shit together and begin reigning in their political representatives...Right now CA is full of marxists who do not believe in the nation state.

Yes, it does show you how far we've come, unfortunately. Of course, for Trump I think he has to follow through or risk losing his political base, which rests in part on the view that he's an outsider.

The more I think of the current state of affairs, the more I'm concluding that the Trump Presidency is going to represent the lancing of a national boil, which is the growing political divide between the left an the right. Let's pop it, drain the pus, and start some healing. Right now we are in the confrontation/change stage, which is the lance going in.

The whole Calexit deal is a great way to test the Constitution.

I want to see it happen so we (The US) can prove once and for all the real intent of the 10th Amendment and once again settle the question of Federal Supremacy.

I thought we settled this after the Civil War but its obvious that the question needs to come up again to a point where new Amendments are written

State government as it stands now is a waste of resources. Make the states nothing more than localities to help with administration, something like city or county government.

It would also test the resolve of Californians with regard to how we use natural resources and when we have to modify the environmental for our needs

However, even with all of that being said, the hubris of the people, especially the non-Californians that are against this is hilarious. The US needs us so much more than we need them.
