Re: Crazy Stuff Found 'Round the Internet
Graph seems a little misleading.
What is GDP?
Gross Domestic Product
Why makes the wealthiest 400 Americans so wealthy?
They are CEOs or major shareholders of global corporations.
What do corporations do?
Create products or sell services.
So what does this chart really say?
The top 400 wealthiest Americans run companies that create or account for 20% of our national Gross Domestic Product.
Well no fucking duh, people.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What are we supposed to do about that? Nuke 20% of our national productivity and redistribute it to the 69% of people who pay no income tax?
Derp.

I mean, it pretty clearly says ‘wealth’ as in ‘personal money’. I’m not sure what you’re confused about here.DBTrek wrote: ↑Thu Sep 02, 2021 8:13 amGraph seems a little misleading.

They likely ‘control’ more like 80-90% of our GDP.

Oh my bad. Is my wealth measured in some kind of obscure metric, or in dollars that I could spend? Maybe it’s my impact on the world? If I own 2 shares of Walmart, has my wealth increased to the entire market cap?DBTrek wrote: ↑Thu Sep 02, 2021 8:48 amThe definition of wealth isn't "personal money" you knuckle-dragging poop monkey. So when you see a list of wealthiest Americans, and you see Jeff Bezos up there with $187billion, you believe he has that physically stashed away somewhere as "personal money".
Ok Dumbledore.
Thanks for sharing your opinion.

I don't agree with this boy's policy fix ideas, but the description of the Cantillon Effect is not bad.

No, I assume that the figure comes from his total assets, with the assumption that he could sell them all at current market value.
Your mileage may vary, I guess. Maybe a good chunk of it is just his ‘personal brand’ or something.
