More of a cultural thing, I think. You have the wish-she-was-Chinese/American girl saying it tastes like puke, claiming her ancestors would weep, while the folks from China are busy munching and saying, "Mmm, authentic and tasty."
It's actually a trick question. Her Chinese ancestors were lucky to get a bowl of white rice. That was Chinese food. Maybe they could boil some toads to go on that if they could catch them in the alleys.

My thinking was they were all Americans the difference is what generation of American were they? That is what I think was going on.
And the first generation Americans went from dish to dish some bad, some good no one was going to call thier ethnicity into question.
