That’s a lot of erroneous talking points, false assertions, and woe-is-meisms packed into one short paragraph. Wrong on all counts. All productive labor does not rise to the level of earning self sufficiency. Profits are skewed towards the top because investors and entrepreneurs sank the startup capital and took all the risks of failure and loss, and we’re so far from being a third world nation that you feel no shame in dismissing the very idea that your offspring might lower themselves to doing manual labor out of hand.MilSpecs wrote:Companies are being subsidized by the workforce towards the purpose of paying the workers less. Profit is skewed towards the top and is obviously not sustainable. Hence your suggestion that we continue our decline to third world status.

There is a difference between having the experience and having it be your work for your entire life.C-Mag wrote: Actually, I'm great with them having the experience. Nothing wrong with it.
I sure and the hell didn't want to work in a Bacon production plant, on an assembly line, no talking, you just stand they and process the bacon. It sucked, but it paid the bills instead of me relying on my fellow citizens paying my way.
I’m proud of paying my own way, but I really don’t get how you can forget what poverty is like. There has to be a way to move up.

“In the past.” Not forever.DBTrek wrote:Most of us had shit jobs in the past.
That’s how you learned skills and paid bills.
Never occurred to us to just sit on our ass until some company arbitrarily decided we deserved $80k a year for obtaining a degree and finally paid us what we were “worth”.

Of you pick strawberries forever you have work ethic, but no ambition, and that’s ok.
Or you really, really, love picking strawberries, that’s ok too.
Otherwise, you can pick strawberries until you can afford a CDL to be a truck driver, tech certs to get into the Rex industry, or startup capital for your own biz.
One of your president’s advisors packed blueberries for 8 years.

MilSpecs wrote:That’s if you qualify for subsidized or scholarships, and most don’t. I put one through 4 year and one through a trade school. We qualified for a massive $600 subsidized loan the year both kids were in. Both kids got some scholarship money, but it was a small percentage. Trust me, I made myself extremely aware.doc_loliday wrote:You're not aware then. You can mostly definitely get through college, or tradeschool from financial aid, scholarships, and or subsidized and non-subsidized loans. It's completely possibly at any age.MilSpecs wrote: Never give up. That said, free and subsided is fairly limited. Most people these days are serfs. Makes them even more desperate for those low, low wages.
Duh. The aid is not for people that have money. And for the parents that do have money, but won't give it to their children, there are still options. Unsubsidized loans. Bam. Or the kid can just wait a couple of years until he no longer is seen as supported by a parent. But for the most part, this is not directed toward the statsical anomolies.

Or we’ve set our society up so that the strawberry owners have enforcers so strawberry picking is the only option for a lot of people.DBTrek wrote:Of you pick strawberries forever you have work ethic, but no ambition, and that’s ok.

The enforcers, BTW, have ambition and a work ethic.

We’ve also set up our society up where strawberry picking is voluntary and paid.

Hard to create victims out of paid volunteers, but y’all sure do try.

C-Mag: “I can pay my bills this week. Some day I will have a better job.”
Milspecs: “I can pay my bills this week. Some day I will have vengeance.”
I believe this is called a cultural difference.
