Truthfully, the dogs that could seriously fucking kill you are breeds like my American bulldog or that cane corso milspecs checked out. I suspect the pit bull stats are misleading in that pit bulls and pit bull mixes are the overwhelming majority of dogs out there. Then there is the fact that if something like an American bulldog actually does attack somebody, the media for years would call it a "pit bull type" dog, even though it's a completely different breed group (pit bulls are terriers and American bulldogs are mastiffs).

Most of the people who worry about pit bulls I think are envisioning something built exactly like an American bulldog: about 100-120 lbs, muscular, and big.

This is an American bulldog that is out of control and probably needs to be sent to a special place that can handle this fucking mess the family created.

I think that's what people imagine when they think of a pit bull, though most American bulldogs are not like that at all (mostly calm and gentle unless somebody threatens the family or any child. In my case, my problem occurs if somebody starts beating or getting aggressive with their child. It doesn't happen often, but I can see him starting to flip the switch.

That's an adorable picture but a really bad idea. Little kid at face level with any dog could end up disastrously. A little kid grabbed Jesse around the neck while his dad and I weren't paying attention. He was a friendly dog who liked children. Jesse bit him in the face. Thank God he didn't break skin (And ftr he was never allowed near a small child again). And this was a human submissive dog who tolerated children well. We were very lucky - the child could have been badly hurt and the dog would have been euthanized. Never allow any small child face level with a dog - we'll never be faster than the dog.

The bulldog in that video wouldn't do that. Once they have children to protect, shit gets serious. I don't know if somebody bred them to protect children or what, but man, they will protect kids with their lives.

If they are not raised properly then, like any dog, they can become dangerous, and they are huge so that's a pretty bad thing to happen. But if you socialize them right away, they are very gentle and calm dogs. Unless kids are threatened.

Also, their pain tolerance is so high that kids aren't really going to annoy them.
