Most Americans won't be against a Chinese like system, we have half of it already, and as long as it is sold well, most of you will lap it right up. "Yes sir, may I please have another," because you lap up the current system anyways.
You think of the system only as negatives, think of it this way, if you have good social score, your kids may be able to get into better universities, and you'll pay less, on everything. Perhaps your 401k will look better and they'll match more of what you put in, the higher your social score. There will indeed be powerful incentives.
Your looking out how it can be good for you, but remember, you have to follow the dictated rules to get those benefits. The Chinese social model score is going to measure you and perhaps dock you points for race, gender, religion or sexual choice. They will dock you for what you say on line. So, imagine kids raised in that system. You toe the line government dictated line so your kids can bein the good school, better healthcare, etc. Your kids will be raised to look down on any person that fits negative social points in the system. Your kids will start looking at people of certain race, gender, religion or sexual choice as being bad, because they will know associating with those people might keep them out of the good university.
Right, which is what I'm railing against. Most people wouldn't associate with certain people (that the government told them not to) if they could get a discount on their rent, or their student loans. How about not getting a certain career path because when you go into the interview, they check your credit score and you're known to associate with undesirables. Would people here really give up all of that just to hang out with some undesirables? Well, the answer is no.
The Chinese system, properly incentivized, is going to be a huge hit in America.

I fear you are right jedi.
For Social Engineers, what a great tool. Criticize the government on line and get docked. Own a company and not have enough minorities and you get docked. It would truly be a dystopian version of America.

I think you are right.
It's why this causes me disquiet.

I can see it for this reason, they're already partially doing it. What does, whether or not I want to take up loans, have to do with car insurance? What does it have to do with getting an apartment for rent? What does it have to do with jobs I might seek after? Yet all of these things are affected by my credit score.
It's logically the next step, because I bet you with all of the data they have on us, they can predict whether or not hanging out with a certain person causes you to be less profitable for <insert business>. How would a social credit score even be illegal? If they're private entities, why not penalize you for associating with certain people or visiting certain websites?

The result of blocking a company from finding out if you are worth their time before they spend time on you is they won't bother with you at all.
This has been tried before, and the lessons weren't paid attention to. Sowell just released another book on it.
Talk about engineering, you're trying to tell other people how they can and can't pick customers, employees, tenants, etc.

Not quite as simple as that.
It's illegal to ask certain things when renting or employing for a reason. Because if you follow certain data sets when making decisions you can shut out people from participating in the system to the detriment of all. What happens when we start giving insurance rates based on race for example.
If businesses start requiring that they be able to check your social media before they do something with you, but you don't have social media or rarely use it, you will be shut out. That isn't good for anyone.
