Nope it's true, your first instinct was joy. Hating on the infidels. How does it feel to live in a place that you hate? Is this all because you were rejected by your family? By the faith you were raised in?
That's probably part of my cynicism, but I don't hate America - not the actual place or people. I do hate our woefully incompetent/evil government, tho.

And my reaction was mockery and mirth.
Yes you do, and you love our government. You love NPR and CPB, you love it's employees and it's sheer girth. I got you pegged. Keep telling yourself these lies, I know better than you know yourself.

You really think the enemy needs a fitbit to track the routine movements of American troops? I mean, ca'mon, don't be silly.

Soon as you leave the FOB, they're watching your every move, no GPS required.
When you have some parts of the pentagon that is only able to be accessed by specific people, yeah... that’s dangerous. Because then you can figure out their pattern and all hell could break loose.
Like what? What are you realistically going to do? What is more hell breaking loose than a jumbo jet flying into the building?

Lay it out for us, Ethan Hunt.
Easy, and it could cripple the military and possibly the US in less than a month. Ebola, infect a person and have them on the train, jogging, etc. You’ll have most of the pentagon and others in the military as well as the airports, subways etc infected.

This day and age all it takes it one to two people to infect a public area and you have a pandemic on your hands. And don’t say it’s impossible, it’s not.

We’ve just been lucky so far it hasn’t happened yet.

What does that have to do with the data in question?

They hold public tours of the Pentagon every day, for biological attack, you just walk in through the front door, no need to access secret tunnels under it, a bio attack could be launched from the Pentagon Metro station, which is wide open to the public.

Ebola is a not a good bioweapon tho, sounds scary to the uninitiated, but Ebola kills people too fast, you won't get a pandemic from Ebola, pandemics require a slow killing virus, like influenza.

Your scenario has nothing to do with a data breach, and you don't even understand how a pandemic works, you're just coming up with a nonsensical bogey to panic about, without actually addressing the point, and without even understanding the nature of the bogey you are invoking.

"ZOMG fitbit data!" = "ZOMG US military crippled by Ebola!"? lol.

I figured your answer would be moronic, but that's even dumber than I was expecting.

Sure, it ain't an "Holy Lord, the reds are coming, America is over now" goof'em'up, but it is sure-as-shit a goof'em'up.

More importantly, one that shows that there may be a downside to gleefully handing over every little modicum of data about our lives to a private company under the pretext of gaining a minor convenience.

It ain't like fools couldn't go running before tracking every damn step like an asshole was available.
HAIL!

Her needs America so they won't just take his shit away like in some pussy non gun totting countries can happen.

Well, there is a privacy setting, but when I was running a hundred klicks a week, I would have liked to have the data on it, even just for bragging rights.

My wife is the super fitness freak in the family now, and she's all about her fitbit, but I do think it helps with her training, the data allows her to know what is working for her and what is not.

In the last year she's started going to one of these high tech gyms where they track all your data, and I've never seen her so fit, I mean, she was always reasonably fit, but these days she's Sports Illustrated fit.

I can still outrun her, just on infantry muscle memory, but barely now, used to be able to run circles around her, now she's closed the gap and pushing the pace. making me work hard to stay out ahead. She still can't do a proper chin up, but pretty sure she could ace the rest of the battle fitness test at this point.

For the purposes of military PT, I think that data would be very useful indeed, the military should just contract for an encrypted version.

They had a heat map of these things running around the airport in Mogadishu Somalia, so that's Green Berets, SEALs, and a detachment from the 101st Airborne (Air Assault).

I can see why this stuff catches on with the military, it's hyper competitive, instead of coining people, they're probably posting their PT digitally logged for bragging rights.

How fit you are, particularly how far and fast you can run, pretty much determines the pecking order in the military, and they certainly like to keep score.

Your right Ebola is fast moving, look what happened in Africa. You could introduced Small Pox or any other thing that could do damage.

The point is that if you learn a person’s pattern, they become a liability if security is involved.

If not that, then kidnapping, assassination attempts, knowing when a person is away from their post/desk to do or get something from an office.

How many people in espionage would love to know the security’s pattern for a military base to see if there are holes via the human element?

Just because I picked one thing you think it’s foolish, think about when and if you were in the field, knowing where a target would be at a given day or time, wouldn’t that have made your job easier?

Same issue here. All the training in the world won’t protect you from predictability. Our military isn’t John Wick.
