It's not as impressive as you may think

from /g/

>likely it was released very recently and spread faster than anticipated

>how to not get:

>1) be behind a router that is not forwarding port 445 (99% chance yours is not)
>or
>2) if not behind a router, first kill yourself, then disable SMB or block port 445 in your windows firewall

In the United States HIPAA laws protect patient confidentiality, but I believe that Monty is protected by HIPPO laws since he is a big fat fuck. Funnel cake induced diabetes is a pre-existing condition in the UK. Occupational hazard for carneys I suppose.

>Fortunately, a kill switch was included in the code. When it detects that a particular web domain exists, it stops further infections. That domain was created earlier today by a UK infosec bod, who spotted the dot-com in the reverse-engineered binary; that registration was detected by the ransomware, which immediately halted its worldwide spread.

>Connections to the magic domain – iuqerfsodp9ifjaposdfjhgosurijfaewrwergwea.com – were sinkholed to a server in California, and the admins of the infected systems reaching out to the dot-com will be notified, we're told.
