You are putting your money on a lame horse.

We seem to be "out over our skis" right now. Meaning we are in the birthing process of this Age of Technology and are still trying to figure out how to play this game.

What we need to do is get society back in a serious, upright position so we can at least control our landing. We may under shoot or over shoot our goals but we need to proceed in a more controlled manner than we currently are.

This is not a time to increase the tempo of change! You slow down going in to exponential turns or you will crash.

There is a big gap between those who actually understand what Wikileaks is releasing and those who might as well be reading Japanese.

As we progress through the next century that gap will close considerably. Once we have a populous that is more "tech savvy" hopefully we will be able to better understand the good and the bad that accompany a high tech civilization.

Right now we are asking a bunch of Roman farmers to regulate and use John Deere tractors...

But I do have to say, how much did WikiLeaks really change stuff in the election, do we know ?
It was largely ignored by the Corporate Media and no DNC folks are in jail for rigging an election.

Now Bannon seems to be indicating they are serious about draining the swamp, so we will see.
Wikileaks had at least some influence. Donna Brazille wouldn't have been fired if it wasn't revealed that she gave Hillary tips about questions.

Of course there were others that did the same thing and nothing happened to them but the wikileaks had effects. They gave all of the Trump supporters ammunition and made Hillary look bad. They also spawned the Pizza discussion.
True.
Also, DW-Schultz got fired, then hired by Hillary, and then un-hired by Hillary. We may never know to the extent it caused voters on the fence to vote Trump, or 3rd Party, or just stay home.

I came to the DCF as a libertarian, kinda of always will be, but....

Pull out a constitution, read what is written, and ask yourself: "what is the point of the Constitution?" If the "wise" men (and wise latinas) in robes don't like it, they do away with entire provisions, such as the 4th. The constitution is toast, heading straight downhill, now we can report to our designated first amendment zones to screech about it! So, a written constitution cannot restrain a living, breathing govt for long. We probably had more success on this front than expected.

Our govt will never solve another actual, material problem. I truly believe this. All problems will be kicked down the road, all opportunities for tough decisions (and the decisions will be tough) will be avoided in favor of a.) gaining political favor, b.) enriching allies, or c.) punishing the out-group.

Much of the fault lies in two-party democracy -- it is just a naked power struggle now, both sides equally hypocritical. Although I do not think multi-party democracy would fare much better, if at all. In either case, a tremendous amount of our political energy as society will be devoted to convincing the dumbest, most ignorant among us to vote for X or Y. Good politics does not equal good governance, in fact they are negatively correlated, and simply put -- our govt is very irresponsible.

I am 20% the libertarian I thought I was, once I see this game for what it really is. No libertarian could win these contests, nor could 8 years of ron paul even budge this rotten corpse more than an inch.

fuck man.

I like that analogy but either way I hate government and prefer civilized anarchy. That being said I don't think we as a species are nowhere near ready for that and most likely never will but I would love to see us work towards it.

Next time we, or those who come after, can learn from our mistakes like our founding fathers learned from the Romans.

I think Jefferson understood this. Tree of liberty, blood of tyrants and patriots, and all that stuff.

At the rate we're falling apart it would seem that the Roman's did a better job.

Not endorsing the ideas herein, but anyone read Moldbug?

http://moldbuggery.blogspot.com/

If interested, go to the "Gentle Introduction" series. I don't know his philosophy (haven't read it all), but he certainly identifies the problems outlined in my post above. Calls himself a reactionary. I find it interesting, even where I don't follow.

I wish that I could share this optimism, but many members of the younger generation seem all too comfortable with giving up their privacy and rights for convenience (in some cases safety, also, but convenience seems more important).

So what if the government is listening/watching if you haven't done anything wrong... you know how it goes.

They want google, alexa, siri, facefuck, cortana to listen all the time and record them because it makes life better/easier/more entertaining...

Not all, of course, and I'm speaking anecdotally, but a surprisingly high number are very trusting in these ways.

It's up to the parents to teach them otherwise. Corporate media certainly won't.

For sure, it is motivated to do exactly the opposite.
