You'd be better off recruiting prison gangs rather than Marines, because in the Roman world, the power all flowed from the shank.
Even the gladius, it's just a big knife for shanking people, after you cut their achilles tendon.

The Roman women would be more than the Marines could handle, we're talking killer harpy's here, and it's not just the Plebs in the ghetto, the Roman Patricians were masters of the knife as well.
Anywhere you go looking for trouble in Rome, you are gonna get bum rushed and shanked, just like that, the whole nation was basically one big mafia prison gang.

Re: Rome v. USMC
The most extreme and egregious violence that you see with the Mafia, that is Rome in a nutshell.
I wouldn't like the Marines chances against the Mafia right now, the Mafia wouldn't back down from the Marines, but the Original Gangsters? They'd chop em' up and feed em' to the pigs, just like that.
TBH, I think the Marines might just break and run, in the face of the Roman's sheer brutality, the Romans didn't get PTSD, bet dat.
Like, if somebody crucifies your buddies, and you can call in an airstrike to take your revenge? That's quite a bit different from; they're coming to crucify you next, and there's not much you're going to be able to do about it.
Yeah, the Viet Cong were brutal, but against the Viet Cong, the Marines had attack helicopters, but against the Mafia Romanus, it's just you and them and the prison shank, with no helicopter coming to extract you.

You have this time portal, right?
Go back and pay the Queen Victoria to lend you her expeditionary forces in India and Egypt. Send in Rudyard Kipling. They could deal with the supply issues more easily and they were tough as nails too.
Make a multi-temporal Anglo coalition. With those India troops, add in some longbowman from the Hundred Years War. Maybe even bring in some old-fashion American militia from the colonial and early US period.
Imagine Old Hickory against the Romans.

Naw, no probability broach. No back / forth controls. Not an H.G. Wells novel.
Just a freak occurrence and a one-way ticket back with no contact backwards/forwards. At least that's how I understood the hypothetical.

Nah, you can't bring unlimited resources, the OP says you get a MEU and that's it, if you could bring unlimited resources, you don't need ancient armies, just bring flame throwers and whole lotta gasoline.

Fire was the nemesis of the Romans, you could mow down a whole Legion in a few minutes with a flame thrower, they had no defense against Napalm.
