I do not. As automation increases, more and more workers will be out of a job. I fully expect some hard times coming. I'm no Pollyanna.

Productivity needs to continue increasing until a "meager lifestyle" is easy to reach, and the definition of "work" needs to expand to include things that can be considered investments: education, training, infrastructure, child rearing & the like.

Yeah, and if 3 days meant full time, think how much more overtime you would get.

I think, and I'm sure Hash will correct me if I'm wrong, the idea is to maximize personal agency wherever possible.

I make a lot of OT money, and thinking of how easy it is to add days when I'm already working 5 days if they needed me to add another 13 hour shift for a 4th day I'd get even more overtime AND have two or even three days off still

No not really actually. That's a fair point. Another is that their immigrant population is actually already used to getting something for nothing. That's one of the methods they are kept in line with.

You could always keep people in line by convincing them they ought to push pipe 6 days a week, 12 hours a day in order to survive.

You tell them that's the good Christian thing to do, work is grace, idle hands are the devil's workshop, etc.

That's already happening. CoL is so out of control I make probably triple what my dad did at my age and I'm not providing anything more to my family than he did. In fact, he had been a homeowner for probably a decade by the time he was my age while I'm struggling to get into that bullshit right now
