Rabbits are a game animal?
Most sensible countries see them as vermin and have little or no restrictions on how you kill them.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Maybe game has a different legal meaning in the states. In the UK game animals have certain restrictions on how and when they can be killed. They can't be hunted during the breeding season, minimum calibers and bullet velocities are enforced, you cannot aim to wound large animals and finish them with a second shot you must try to kill it with the first round, you cannot hunt them with packs of dogs. In the case of large species you must be licensed to hunt game.
No spraying automatic fire at wild boar from helicopters here, you would face charges of animal cruelty for wounding an animal and leaving it to die a slow death. No stabbing a bear with a spear and letting it bleed out overnight.
Animals have rights.

Wild boar is a dangerous, invasive species they need to get got. We do have those restrictions but unlike your tiny island we have a lot of open private land here were anything goes. Game means we can eat that shit.

You need a license. I think it is stupid too, though I doubt anybody actually gets prosecuted for killing bunnies.

Do you need a licence to kill rats and squirrels too?

Rats, no. Not sure about squirrels. Though, as I said, I doubt anybody gets prosecuted for killing something like a rabbit or squirrel, unless it happens in a park or something like that.

Rabbits are not considered vermin here, though, and people still eat them. If people eat it, then we tend to manage their population as a resource.

Which perhaps is why we still have wildlife resources and you guys are mostly depleted.

Yeah that must be it, nothing to do with the size of America compared to the UK.
Are rabbits not a massive pain in the arse for your farmers?
We eat rabbits here too but a lot of suppliers and restaurants buy in farmed New Zealand varieties rather than the skinny wild ones. I don't get it as they are ten times the cost and don't taste any better.

Not really, dude. Before TR took the White House,. A lot of America was literally a dump. Conservationism saved quite a lot of resources and then brought back resources where they had before been destroyed.
