According to The Dallas Morning News contributor Richard Parker – who is also the author of ‘Lone Star Nation: How Texas Will Transform America’ – the border tax plan would basically transfer around $1 trillion from the companies importing goods in the big importing states to the less competitive Midwest. And Texas, being one of the top international trading and importing states alongside California, Florida and New York, would likely lose.

I doubt the plan would stay that way. It will change multiple times, although I think CA being taken out of the picture is a smart move on Trump.

Otherwise Trump when things aren't going quite so well Trump will have to use his skills to influence people into thinking that the economy isn't that bad and will turn around at any moment. So far his ability to harness the animal spirits to his advantage is quite impressive, but the sample size is quite small and there is no guarantee that trend will hold.

It's not the only thing to run on an economy on, but it sure as fuck helps. Influencing crowd psychology can have a big effect on the economy, Keynes knew. The ability of the bully pulpit to persuade people to believe in a certain economic outlook has a huge impact on how well the markets are doing, and any president should use that leverage to aid the economy to the best of their abilities.
