That just doesn't feel right, the timeline doesn't seem support it. I really believe it was internet 2.0 (maybe 3.0?) that did it. Marxism was always there, but the networks could never network. Small pockets could always be dismissed and ignored. But once they could all link up in real time and get their words in front of the whole country, they created a feedback loop and they became irresistible.
