It's not just about one or two picks in the first round, you need to get the pick of the litter in all the rounds, for a few years in a row, you can't just do what Edmonton does, which is win the lottery, and then completely ignore the rest of the process.

It's like two of the Leafs most tradeable playable low cost assets right now, are Connor Brown on the Leafs, and Andreas Johnsson on the Marlboros, a sixth round pick and a seventh round pick respectively, it's about loading up with picks in all the rounds, because you just don't know which ones are going to pan out, so you have to take as many shots as possible, and then you have to squirrel them away in the minors and wait to see what you hit on.

Again, Edmonton, they have McDavid and Draistl, but that's about it, they have absolutely no depth prospects in the system, and that is why they continue to flail, despite multiple lottery picks.
