If the British Prime Minister weekly comes to an audience to the monarch and British government acts in her name, the British Monarch has quite much more potential power than just from the family wealth. In a severe constitutional crisis the British Monarch could wield a lot of power with simply not obeying what a prime minister asks of him or her. And being the Commander-in-Chief of the British Armed Forces, no matter how ceremonial that position is in normal times, is also a position worth noting.

Of course the present Monarch has had quite inept advisors and hasn't used in any way that potential power that she has. The ceremonial role and simply her family's personal lives and entanglement with the media seem to have overwhelmed this Monarch.

Given that the banks are fleeing to the mainland as fast as they can before the Brexit deadline hits, I get the impression whatever power the royal supposedly hold over the ZE GLOBAL FINANCE SYSTEMS OMG is about to be rendered moot anyway.

The British monarchy created "ZE GLOBAL FINANCE SYSTEMS OMG". It doesn't matter where the banks go. All the tax havens are basically city states or small islands that were setup as financial hubs by the British Empire. "ZE GLOBAL FINANCE SYSTEMS OMG" is the last vestige of the empire. That family is part of the "ZE GLOBAL FINANCE SYSTEMS OMG" no matter what happens to jihad pozzed UK.

Not really. The moment the Queen started using her power it would be taken from her by Parliament. We fought a civil war over this and Parliament won.

Some of the more modern ones are in the 16th century, yes.

So you guys are still afraid about Catholics taking over your government? Even we (the US) have move on from it. Your're the ones with the backwards laws regrading government and religion.

No law against Catholics in the government. Actually no law against Harry marrying one either, only the monarch is prohibited. William could have married one but he would have lost his right to become king.
All that changed on March 26th 2015 though. Nothing at all to keep those dirty papists off the throne anymore. Sad.

Goes back to the whigs in the so-called glorious revolution which, in a way, is also the story of the beginning of the financial empire. The Dutch were a financial empire of their own right. The succession of William of Orange was an infusion of the financial system into England. They brought a lot of German bankers over not long after (i.e. Rothschilds). The British Empire was, in effect, a worldwide economic empire. The banking aspect of the empire exists to this day. It's the global financial system that we all have to toil under. The physical empire is gone, but that fucking financial monster remains.

The religious war between the three sides was really just something those of us proles were fighting. The real struggle was economic and it was going on in the upper echelons of society.

Well it's moving to Frankfurt soon so our banking glory days are over.

Arguably, most of the power in it moved to New York City after the Breton Woods agreement, but I don't think the location of power means jack here. This thing is an extra-national vampiric beast.

I mean IF you guys are going to allow a divorcee to take the crown then I guess you don't have to be a member of the Church of England also:
