Re: Public School Education System Thread
I'm uncertain about Devos, not enough info. But I am certain trying something different in education is warranted, especially for inner cities. I don't anticipate rural education to change much. However it will be a chance at revolutionary change for inner city education which is, generally speaking, a massive failure.Fife wrote:

I'm now okay with a giant asteroid hitting our planet and taking us out.
Lego's are neutral. If this damn teacher is so worried about it then buy some girl specific sets and STFU!

http://www.arnoldkling.com/blog/what-i- ... education/What I Believe About Education
Kling makes twelve quick points about our public school system. The first four:
1. The U.S. leads the world in health care spending per person, but not in health care outcomes. Many people look at that and say that health care costs too much in the U.S., and we should be able to get the same our better outcomes by sending less. Maybe that is correct, maybe not. That is not the point here. But–
2. the U.S. leads the world in K-12 education spending per student, but not in student outcomes. Yet nobody, says that education costs too much and that we should spend less. Except–
3. me. I believe that we spend way too much on K-12 education.
4. We spend as much as we do on education in part because it is a sacred cow. We want to show that we care about children.

It's almost as though rank corruption were an issue here...
Or we could just cut spending and see what happens.

You'll notice we don't have this problem with patio furniture.
If I want some furniture for the backyard, I can shop around anywhere in town. I can shop across the border in New Mexico, and probably even in old Mexico. I can shop online for patio furniture from just about anywhere in the world, and you'll never hear someone say the US leads the world in spending on patio furniture, but not in patio outcomes.
Funny that.
