Re: Prosecute Tom Hanks ("I know what love is!")
We got a bit of a taste of this kind of mania with 9-11, but that wasn't nuclear bombs.
So think post 9-11 freak out, on nuclear steroids.
The Domino Theory made people crazy, literally crazy with fear.
The public went crazy, the media went crazy, everything was brink of existential war.
Once invoked by the government, they couldn't control what they had incited.
Kennedy was actually frightened by it, he said "the press is screaming for me to start WWIII"
None the less, he wanted to win, so he wasn't going to go against the grain.
The public was worked up into a frenzy, he wasn't gonna stand astride the tracks and get run over by that train.

It's all in the Pentagon Papers.
This is why Kennedy is escalating in Vietnam.
He knows it's going to be a quagmire, but if you come out and say that, you will lose the election.
If you say you are abandoning Indochina, the Domino Theory panicked public will tear you to pieces.
You've invoked World War Three, you can't just walk that back so easily. Too late for that.
And this is all because of Eisenhower. He's the one who incited the mania.
If the Supreme Allied Commander says Domino Theory, then it is true.

Kennedy whipped it up even more to out Domino Theory Nixon.
So now its vetted twice.
Ike says so. JFK says so.
You can't come back now and say "just kidding, we made it all up, we have no idea what we're doing"

Re: Prosecute Julian Assange ("I love Wikileaks!")
They still have to convince a jury in federal court that he actually committed a crime, and I'd imagine some good lawyers are willing to get into this for free.

Also:
Clapper was never prosecuted for the crimes (especially perjury) exposed by Wikileaks.
Nobody was ever prosecuted for deliberately violating the US Constitution with illegal domestic spying.
Nobody was ever prosecuted for any of that illegal bullshit they used against Trump either.
I think they will come out looking much worse for this.
Trump will come out looking fucking stupid again too. He's like that king in the Silmarillion who fucked it all up because he couldn't just destroy the fucking ring. He thought if only he had that power he could make it all right.

Re: Prosecute Julian Assange ("I love Wikileaks!")
The State is silly to go after Assange.
Its hubris is its only weakness.
All they can do is punish Assange, but it will avail them nothing.
Striking him down will not weaken or dissuade those that would do as he has done.
The only thing that could happen from this is more truth. To the extent the current must be pulled back further in order to crucify him, the weaker they become.
Though I wish him no pain. Please continue in your err State.

From my FB feed.
Assange said that if he were arrested, he would open all Wikileaks files with sensitive information about countries around the world and has kept his promise.
Here you can see them.
