Compared to Southern Europe, they are OK. It's really not at all about the economy here.Montegriffo wrote:Neither Scotland or Northern Ireland have an economy strong enough to qualify for EU membership. NI may choose to reunite with Ireland, and I wouldn't blame them, Scotland are stuck with us for a while yet.
The real problem why the EU isn't so glad about Scotland wanting to be in the EU yet get out of the UK is simply that too many EU countries fear what kind of example would it give to the independence craving areas they have. First naturally is Spain, but likely Italy would fear if Northern Italy would choose a similar route. Heck, why not if Bavaria would say that it wants out of Germany, but will stay in the EU?
Hence if EU truly would one single entity looking for its own interest, of course it would simply crush UK's Brexit by wellcoming with open arms an independent Scotland to it's ranks. Now that would send a pretty strong message to any member thinking of exiting the EU, because the EU could really fuck nearly every country in the similar way.
But, the EU isn't a federation (even if it wants to be) but a de facto confederacy of independent states taking care of their own interests.

The Manx flag is an odd one
Nice castles tooThe flag of the Isle of Man or flag of Mann (Manx: brattagh Vannin) is a triskelion, composed of three armoured legs with golden spurs, upon a red background. It has been the official flag of Mann since 1 December 1932[2] and is based on the Manx coat of arms, which dates back to the 13th century. The three legs are known in Manx as ny tree cassyn ("the three legs"). The triskelion is an ancient symbol, used by the Mycenaeans and the Lycians. It is not known for certain why the symbol was originally adopted on the Isle of Man.[3] Before its adoption in 1932, the official flag of the Isle of Man was the Union Jack.

For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

This could be a taste of things to come as the US tries to slap a 220% tariff on planes made in Northern Ireland.ssu wrote:Compared to Southern Europe, they are OK. No nanny state on the Isle of Man.

Huh. I never see that flag on 4chan. I see like a sideways St. George's Cross sometimes. I think it's actually Jersey that gets that one. I don't even know where that is really.Montegriffo wrote:The Manx flag is an odd one

Take that back. I have Isle of Man in my flag folder. It's really rare.

Terrorism has long been a pretty serious threat here. Low-to-no-planning-required terrorism has increased signficantly in the last decades, though. Where terrorist attacks in the past required detailed planning and explosives knowhow, nowadays you basicly only need a car. Or, if you're going really "advanced" you might acquire a gun.C-Mag wrote:

They must be considering it a pretty serious threat.
If there were enough police, they wouldn't need the military. So, it's not as if the terrorist threat is exceptionally serious as to warrant military over police, it's simply a question of not having the manpower amongst the police forces.
Fame is not flattery. Respect is not agreement.
