https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/face ... 0180AB1884Existing law requires, except as otherwise provided, a person who violates any provision of the code to be guilty of a misdemeanor with each offense punishable by a fine of not less than $25 or more than $1,000, or by imprisonment in the county jail for a term not exceeding 6 months, or by both.
This bill would prohibit a food facility, as specified, where food may be consumed on the premises from providing single-use plastic straws to consumers unless requested by the consumer. By creating a new crime and imposing additional enforcement duties on local health agencies, this bill would impose a state-mandated local program.

Apparently, they 'intend to amend the bill to remove the fines'. Sounds like a lot of people got pissed off quicklyKath wrote:don't even... can't... uhwut?

Of all the wasteful, planet poisoning crap we produce I think drinking straws are one of the easiest to live without. Lose the chance of going to jail but keep the fines. Unless you are 3 years old and haven't learnt to drink from a cup yet you don't need a straw.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

This is why your kind is losing.
It's none of your business how people choose to drink their beverages. If we are going down that road, we ought to start locking up fat people for not going to the gym for an hour four days per week.

It is my fucking business. The planet doesn't belong to us we are just looking after it for future generations and we're doing a shit job of it.
Next we are coming for your styrofoam take away boxes and your non recyclable paper coffee cups.
All the supermarket plastic packaging needs to go too.
Get with the program or pay your fines, choice is yours.

Only soy milk from reusable pouches or wooden cups from now on; in amounts approved by Central Planning.
It's also time to round up all juggling implements and halt production of those as well. Wasteful.

The Eco-Nazis are coming, you can get with the program or pay your fines.
Plastic water bottles are out, you can bring your own reusable bottles and fill up from the tap because the tax on your plastic bottles is going to be prohibitive.
Plastic micro beads in your shampoo? I think not.
House full of cleaning chemicals? No chance you can use vinegar and elbow grease like your grandmother used to.
You don't get a say in it you are too selfish to decide for yourself
