He shouldn't have killed himself in the end. The way he went out, the frustrations behind it, I can sympathize with. But why kill himself? To me that just erases the point of the fight, the choice to destroy the buildings of the officials that wronged him. I get he felt hopeless, that the local government favored the larger business and let him deal with their mess unfairly and that he suffered economically for it... but a guy like him could have had more value as a public figure and spokesman against corrupt local government screwing over small businesses. His choice, ofc, but it adds a sour note of despair and hopelessness to what's an otherwise inspirational story.
I think you are right. The way it happened the reason for his rage is almost lost to history in 15 years. Wikipedia notes there was a Zoning dispute, I the graphic I posted tells his side of it. Ya know he'd probably be getting out of prison now if he'd have just given up.
