Not that I don't see why they wouldn't just use a combination of economic pressure and sanctions to force Taiwan into the fold, but the military option might be more sensible - to the PRC, at least - for all I know.

Formosa is actually a daunting fortress, there are only a few beaches where you could land a force, to then drive that force over the narrow beachheads in the face of the dug in Taiwanese, would be too much for the Chinese, the Americans could do it, but the Chinese don't actually have a United States Marine Corps nor anything even close.

The Chinese have gotten fat and lazy already, basically sitting on their asses like they done something.

Then they bumbled into a fight with the North Vietnamese and the North Vietnamese handed them their asses.

And that's about it.

It's not about how much money you have, it's not about how much kit you buy.

Institutionally, the Chinese have no idea how to fight their way out of a wet paper bag.

What makes the American military so formidable, is the institutions therein.

Which have the institutional knowledge and experience, of fighting huge wars and winning most of them.

You can't just buy that off the rack.

Oh, you want a United States Marine Corps do you?

Yeah. Those don't get built overnight. The Americans started the process in 1775.

This is basically the core problem with the PRC which extends to the PLA

They have no history.

They've only been around since 1950.

They pretty much wrecked the place for the first 30 years, Great Leap Forward into a ditch.

They still haven't recovered from that.

Trillions of US dollars lying around, but they don't even have an idea what to do with it.

They are basically just trying to mimic America.

Because the Communist Chinese have nothing of their own to draw upon.

Legislative, institutional and historical vacuum, there's no there there.

They are regressing, because they don't know what to do.

They are going back into the commie womb whence they came, it's more like panic than assertiveness.

The greatest threat is actually that they will implode and cause a massive financial crisis therein.

The West is essentially choosing to prop them up, to stave off the fallout of them blowing themselves up.

They don't have a plan, and even if they did, none of their institutions actually function.
