Are they not currently trying to expand those sealift capabilities, then? How many years would it take them, approximately - if they wanted to take Taiwan by force? Not that I don't see why they wouldn't just use a combination of economic pressure and sanctions to force Taiwan into the fold, but the military option might be more sensible - to the PRC, at least - for all I know.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2019 1:18 amHow much containment is required tho?
The Chinese can't really project much power beyond the mainland.
For example, they couldn't even take Taiwan by force of arms, nowhere near enough sea lift.
So what's the big whoop?
They've got a big army, but it can't actually get very far.
They can basically fight the Russians or the Indians, and they couldn't win in either case. Stalemate.

Re: FUCK THE PRC
Rumors of China overtaking the US hegemony have of course been greatly exaggerated. People said the same thing about Japan, how's that working out? America Haters be snorting the Wishful Thinking Dust, yet again.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2019 1:18 amHow much containment is required tho?

Formosa is actually a daunting fortress, there are only a few beaches where you could land a force, to then drive that force over the narrow beachheads in the face of the dug in Taiwanese, would be too much for the Chinese, the Americans could do it, but the Chinese don't actually have a United States Marine Corps nor anything even close.BjornP wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2019 1:34 amAre they not currently trying to expand those sealift capabilities, then? They're not even useful for inciting Spartan UBI to the stars.
Even in terms of Space Soldiering they are meh, their space program is not ambitious at all.
Or at least, not ambitious enough to provoke the Americans to go big in the face of it.
They're not trying to outdo the Americans, they're just trying to do things the Americans have already done.

The Soviets were far more dynamic, the Soviets were far more ambitious, the Soviets did so much more with less.
Can you imagine what the Soviets could have done, with $3.7 trillion in US dollars lying around, Nadezhda?
The Chinese are cash hoarders, but they don't produce anything of note with it.
If the Soviets had the kind of money China has, the Soviets would have colonized the solar system by now.
The Chinese have gotten fat and lazy already, basically sitting on their asses like they done something.
But what have they really done? Invade Tibet? Not exactly the Moonshoot.

They fought in Korea, cost them a million men just to kill 36,000 Americans, and that didn't win anything for China.
Then they bumbled into a fight with the North Vietnamese and the North Vietnamese handed them their asses.
And that's about it.
Subjugating defenseless Tibet is their great military conquest so far.

Re: FUCK THE PRC
It's not about how much money you have, it's not about how much kit you buy.
Institutionally, the Chinese have no idea how to fight their way out of a wet paper bag.
What makes the American military so formidable, is the institutions therein.
Which have the institutional knowledge and experience, of fighting huge wars and winning most of them.
You can't just buy that off the rack.
Oh, you want a United States Marine Corps do you?
Yeah. Those don't get built overnight. The Americans started the process in 1775.

Re: FUCK THE PRC
This is basically the core problem with the PRC which extends to the PLA
They have no history.
They've only been around since 1950.
They pretty much wrecked the place for the first 30 years, Great Leap Forward into a ditch.
They still haven't recovered from that.
Trillions of US dollars lying around, but they don't even have an idea what to do with it.
They are basically just trying to mimic America.
Because the Communist Chinese have nothing of their own to draw upon.
Legislative, institutional and historical vacuum, there's no there there.
Xi turning them back to Stalinism is a huge sign of weakness. Crisis even.
They are regressing, because they don't know what to do.
They are going back into the commie womb whence they came, it's more like panic than assertiveness.
The greatest threat is actually that they will implode and cause a massive financial crisis therein.
Central planning doesn't work unless you have a brilliant master plan.
Problemo; there ain't no Bonaparte's in the Chinese Communist Party of fat and lazy tyrants.
The West is essentially choosing to prop them up, to stave off the fallout of them blowing themselves up.
There's a lot of cash swimming around in there, but its swimming around in a giant basket case.
For all the pretenses of total control projected by Beijing, really what is going behind the curtain is lawless chaos.
They don't have a plan, and even if they did, none of their institutions actually function.
It's a classic Potemkin Village, just on a huge scale.

Seriously, the world would be a far better place if the mainland China was turned into a radioactive crater....
At some point - the rest of the world is going to have to decide when to war with the PRC....they're completely ruining the Earth for everyone else - they truly believe that money will keep the PRC elite out of harms way. Has there ever been a ruling party so vile? Not even sure the USSR was as belligerent as these fuckers. It's been exactly one year since US scientists reported a mysterious surge in ozone-destroying chemicals, known as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).
Banned in 1987 under the globally signed Montreal Protocol, there was only one explanation: somewhere out there, in an unknown location, someone must have gone rogue, setting back progress on the ozone hole by a decade or more.
After much speculation, the whereabouts and magnitude of these harmful emissions has been confirmed in scientific research. As earlier reporting in The New York Times had already suggested, they seem to be coming from the northeast coast of mainland China.

They're acting scared...Like a cornered weasel puffing itself up. Just like the Soviets before they collapsed....Commies goona commie..."China must be prepared to fight a protracted war," states a four-minute, anti-American video posted five days ago on a Chinese video-sharing service.
"Trump's ‘outrageous and selfish' strategy might work for smaller countries, but it will never work for China," the video warns. "To quote a well-written article in the Global Times: If the Americans want to fight, we will fight them until the end! And we will fight until the Pacific Ocean splits into two!" Global Times is the Communist Party of China's nationalistic and anti-U.S. news outlet.
