What is weird about all these after prison shows is that the former inmates always get flooded with questions about rape and are asked how common it is. Without exception, their response is that it barely (if ever) happens. I have a buddy who did some time and he said that it doesn't happen either. He told me that there are punks in there who will perform sexual favors for commisary and shit, so there is no need for rape. Then he told me about the PREA Act 2012 and how you can call a hotline and they will transfer you out if something like that goes down. The thing is, I have seen some very fucked up prison documentaries that say that it happens frequently, so I wonder if either:
a) the PREA Act actually stopped this heinous shit from happening. If so that is awesome. I think Obama pushed for that, so props to him if it worked
b) these dudes are denying that rape happens because they were victims of it or did some gay shit inside
c) these dudes are denying it happens because they were rapists inside or had a prison wife, and don't want that info getting out.
d) prison rape was always this overblown thing that didn't happen often and that Hollywood just made it a running joke.
