I don't know WTF you guys are talking about with the "old scouts" stuff. My son earned Eagle last year, and had to work damn hard for it. His troop camps once a month year round, and the kids learn serious skills from the scoutmaster, a 75 year old ex military and MIT engineer who is still hard as nails and backpacks after 2 hip replacements. My kid is unbelievably self reliant and responsible, is a Wilderness First Responder and certified BSA rock climbing instructor (had to get a BSA waiver to take it so young and run the camp climbing program at 18). He and his buddy (also Eagle) planned and executed a weeklong backpacking trip alone when they were 15. The also went on an 18 mile hike on his 18th birthday. That it snowed in the Catskills did not stop them, they SNOWSHOE'D 18 MILES!!! Not all scout troops are pussies. The military would love to get their mitts on these 2 boys.

Which evil would that be? Consorting with Girls? I doubt the Catholic church sponsoring my son's troop will be changing its policy. You might be shocked to learn that girls have been in the explorers for decades, and even are counselors at the boys camps. My son showed true scout spirit by scoring a girlfriend at Boy Scout Camp.

Churches are moving away from supporting that garbage.
