One can scarcely imagine a group, racial or political, that hasn’t been accused of declaring war on traditional Americans on this forum in the last two years. Maybe you’re all just starting to lose your minds?

But I expect the real deal is that it is just easier to come into contact with opinions that are the furthest from your own. The poles aren't actually getting further apart... we are just becoming more acutely aware of the distance.

Innernette is still pretty new. I am confident we can all grow the fuck up and continue the project pluralistic democracy with people whose ideas annoy us once we get used to hearing those ideas without completely freaking out.

You cited two - two - authors getting column space in a third guy's magazine calling for a one-party state. Do those two + plus the magazine owner represent all of The Left (capital letters, of course) in the US, since you believe everyone to the left of...whatever qualifies as not "The" left... just declared war on you?

If you're genuinely under attack, you ought to have every right to defend yourself by lethal means, right? So... if you seriously, truly, in your mind and in your heart, genuinely believe that you're at "war", then you of course should start organizing into militias right now and planning attacks at your earliest convenience. You know, as pre-emptive defense.

That is, if you truly believe what you're saying about being at "war". I've been hearing talk of impending civil war on these pages for eight years in some form or another. Somehow none of you have started killing the other side, yet. Either get to it, already, or stop mouthing off about it like a drunk with no teeth.

We're communicating more, with less diversity of thought because we seek out those who we agree with and drive away those we don't, with people all across the country and even the world in some cases... while locked up in our homes/cubes not daring to talk to our neighbors because one wrong comment will get you ostracized (or brought up on harassment charges at work) for having a different opinion.

Its solve able.
It will just take decades. And likely many bodies.
The same challenge came with the printing press.
I am imagine something similiar happened during the transition from pre-history to history. Though less... documented... as it were.
