Remember when you couldn't find a job and were bitching about how little the government did for people in need? I remember. I'll bet others remember, too.
Yup, you honestly don't see the difference between what I was saying back then and now? Seriously?

Back then I couldn't find a job, so I looked for help where I could find it, and the state was saying that we made too much money to get help, which was bullshit. I was out of work for almost two years... I needed help, it wasn't that I didn't want to work, I wasn't given the ability to do so.

When people work a full-time job, and make a decent income and don't save up, there is an issue.

You don't see the difference? Really?

It's crystal clear. When you need help, it's totally legit. When anyone else needs help, it's because they are lazy spendthrifts.

The point of the state and government is to help people when they fall to help them get back up and back on their feet to fend for themselves. Not to have people suck on their tit for the rest of their lives...

I asked for help, not a way of life.

"Spending" or "sitting," eh?

Time for some Econ 201. Enjoy, everyone.

http://tomwoods.com/ep-1045-the-key-ing ... they-dont/
The first guy is spending every penny on things they "think" they can't do without, but often can. True, his golf club membership might help employ a few people and his BMW helped keep a few German workers employed, his collection of fidget spinners kept a few people employed in what is probably a productivity killer overall...

The second guy is probably not sitting on a pile of $100 bills in a huge safe in his home, they're probably invested in stocks, bonds, (or funds), REITs, etc. Your city/town/state probably issues bonds to fix roads, water/sewage, build/repair schools, etc. Who do you think buys those but the people with capitol to invest? Stocks/Corp.bonds provide working capital to businesses that employ people. I'm sure you like having running water and roads, right?

Like anything it's a balance - nobody buys fidget spinners then the companies making them will layoff people or go under, nobody buys muni bonds (or federal debt) roads don't get built, water mains don't get replaced, schools have leaky roofs. Both have side effects - disincentivising either probably comes with consequences.

Is statement is so dumb. Shame on us for wanting to be smart with our money. Shame on us for wanting to save some of it for our kids so they can maybe have it easier than you did. Fuck off with that.

This is an issue that really fires me up. I grew up watching my grandparents sacrifice for the benefit of me and my parents. I then watched my parents sacrifice for me and my family. None of them were rich, or even upper middle class. I was the first in my family to go to college. Now people who probably wish their parents and grandparents did the same want to take from people like me who are now sacrificing for my kids. Each generation has been focused on building upon what was passed on to them. I'm not sitting on 20 million, but the philosophy is correct. First they only go after the super rich, then they take out the next level down. Eventually they come after people like me whose family has been working and saving and investing for generations to build something for our future, and they feel entitled to it because they don't have the same. When that philosophy meets up with my philosophy I will be enacting my 2nd amendment rights and fighting to protect that which is mine.

I've seen people who spend all their money and never save. I'm not talking about people living paycheck to paycheck because they are poor. I see solid middle class people spend every dollar that comes their way. What frequently happens is they then keep spending dollars they don't have. Eventually they are in debt so far they either file bankruptcy (which doesn't help the jobs you are so concerned about) or just skip out on paying people they owe (again, hurting jobs).

Good luck getting an affordable loan of any kind if no one ever saved anything. Whose going to have money on hand to loan to you? The few that did have the money would have you by the balls and you'd be paying double digit interest rates.
Some people earn so little that they have to spend all their money just to survive and pay the bills. Great if you can earn enough that you can put half of it in the bank, that is not something most people can do.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

1 in 20 Americans is a millionaire.
15 in 20 are resentful Facebook/Tumblr complainers jealously trying to destroy them.

You can't retire on a million dollars unless you have only yourself to take care of and live frugally.

Like you’d fucking know.
Mr. Money Beard can tell you how to retire on half that.
But he’s actually a practitioner, not an armchair philosopher.
