Nobody here has raised the question as to whether this is even scientifically possible. I've read the novel, loved it in fact, but I've seen no evidence that this technology even exists. An upper atmospheric detonation of a Thermonuclear device does not = dark ages. It might mean a couple of street lights go out based on our scientific tests. It's not exactly a freaking Solar flare. It should be noted that as well that if North Korea attempted such, it would be an act of war and hell would be popping.

My point for posting this thread was to point out that the Government is lying in plain sight. Smitty is 100% Correct about his bullshit barometer.
Not only is 90% ridiculous, the very idea that the technology is even possible to create such an event is also preposterous.

This is dangerous. This is the kind of bullshit that got us in Vietnam, and got us back into Iraq with weapons of mass destruction.

I'm all for war with North Korea if there is no other option, but this idea that they can do this, and this is why we have to go to war is utter bullshit.

Except when those numbers are being employed by the MIC to justify flushing tens of billions down the rabbit hole that is the Missile Defense Agency and associated GMD in Fairbanks Alaska, which wouldn't even stop an EMP, but would continue to be a nice little profit centre for Wall Street via corporate welfare to Boeing Defense Space & Security division.

This is what they do, I'm not telling you anything you don't know, in the 1950's, in order to justify handing a huge a contract to Boeing to build a thousand B-52's, Boeing got the politicians to assert the "Bomber Gap!", the claim was that the Soviets had a super bomber, the Bison bomber, and the "estimate" was that the Soviets had "800!" of them, actual number the Soviets had; 4. And they were junk.

Eisenhower didn't buy the Bomber Gap, he said it was bullshit, but congress kept on fapping hysterically until Boeing got their contract.

Again: that argument is fucking asinine on the surface of it. The MIC has everything to lose from something like this since it would threaten their budget. MIC is not going to be hardening electrical grids. That will be all the utility subcontractors. MIC will not be running the Civil Defense Program.
