Man . . . prison for profit has got to end. This is a bad idea.
You know where the money to run prisons comes from? It's called taxes.
Trying to grab an extra $25 per day, per prisoner, without voter input is shady as shit.
Make your case to the taxpayer and ask for more money, that's the system.
Can't do that, that be a debtor's prison and it's illegal in the US.
No, charging inmates is not a debtors prison. A debtors prison is throwing people in prison for unpaid debt. Regardless, my point is that (on top of the obvious problems everyone else cited) it's mind boggling to me that there's not more of a public outcry over the government practice of charging fees for public infrastructure already paid for with taxes.

You don't fund your jails with fees. You fund them with taxes. Why the hell is Seattle charging tolls on the 520 bridge when they raise taxes every year to pay for roads and bridges? This bullshit where taxes are levied on the people to pay for infrastructure, and then the government charges additional "usage" fees is a scam that needs to end.

But you are straight out of Arkham... well, I guess an asylum and prison aren't the same... :P

Arkham was a town in Lovecraft's fictional universe, not an insane asylum. You are confusing that Arkham with Batman.

I always assumed the Batman Arkham asylum was a nod to Lovecraft.

That might be true, but in the stories, the town was this whole fleshed out location, with Miskitonic University, a newspaper, politics, etc.

Your avatar is very cool because it just replaces Compton with Arkham, which makes sense for Lovecraft.

Ditto. Anyway, more T-shirts would be sold if it was to be believed for Batman's Arkham than Lovecraft... at least till the Lovecraft game comes out that is.

Thanks!
I stole it from one of the FB horror writer groups as soon as I saw it.
