Re: Hurricane Irma Thread AKA Floridian Devastation
Most of the people on Florida's sex offender list are not what you would consider dangers to anybody. This is a good example of why I oppose those registries.
Denying emergency services to people for a past conviction is fucking nuts.
Also another example of why Florida seems so retarded to the rest of the country.
And while we are at it.. what demographic features do you suppose, historically, posed the greatest threats to people in hurricane shelters?? If we are going to take the road of denying emergency services to people who pose a "risk" to others, it could get pretty fucking ugly real fast.

If those tweets are for real, he's getting sued by somebody when this storm is over. I wonder what happens if somebody is denied shelter and dies, though.
This guy should be removed by the governor right away.

Alternative arrangements aren't a denial of services.

You can't jail a guy that got caught nailing a 17-year-old in high school. And you certainly can't lock him out in a Cat 5 storm, after he served his time.DBTrek wrote:Alternative arrangements aren't a denial of services.
EDIT: In some states, you can get "sex offender" status for sexting or public urination.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_offender
A sex offender (sexual offender, sex abuser, or sexual abuser) is a person who has committed a sex crime. What constitutes a sex crime differs by culture and legal jurisdiction. Most jurisdictions compile their laws into sections, such as traffic, assault, and sexual. The majority of convicted sex offenders have convictions for crimes of a sexual nature; however, some sex offenders have simply violated a law contained in a sexual category. Some of the crimes which usually result in a mandatory sex-offender classification are: a second prostitution conviction, sending or receiving obscene content in the form of SMS text messages (sexting), and relationship between young adults and teenagers resulting in corruption of a minor (if the age between them is greater than 1,060 days). If any sexual contact was made by the adult to the minor, then child molestation has occurred. Other serious offenses are sexual assault, statutory rape, bestiality, child sexual abuse, female genital mutilation, incest, rape, and sexual imposition. However, particularly sex offender registration laws in the United States, may also classify less serious offenses as sexual offenses requiring sex offender registration. In some states public urination, having sex on a beach,[1] or unlawful imprisonment of a minor also constitute sexual offenses requiring registration.[2][3]

News to the legal system, I'm sure.GrumpyCatFace wrote:You can't jail a guy that got caught nailing a 17-year-old in high school.
That's true. That's why if they have a warrant, they'll be locked *in* a jail - you know, where people with warrants go.And you certainly can't lock him out in a Cat 5 storm, after he served his time.
