The problem with the EU and NATO is that the officials are making these huge decisions for the people who live in their client countries on a completely unelected and arbitrary basis.
The analogy stands quite well. If the EU decides on a foreign policy, that stands. And the EU can sometimes do that.
If there wouldn't be an EU, I can guarantee that my country wouldn't be now having any sanctions with Russia now. We'd be neutral and basically wouldn't give a shit about any sanctions. We would just hope "that Ukraine and Russia can solve there differences peacefully".
Furthermore, in NATO the US is that decides things. NATO members just can decide what they contribute or if they contribute anything.
