And if you were my new "boss" and I came to you saying I need at least a 30% raise so I can try to keep up with my old lifestyle, what would you respond with?

Good find dumbass. NJ was totes blue at the time and experienced a decent turnaround. And Arizona also had a Dem Gov. Add this to the list of things you are wrong about.

So? Budget issues being? Tax and spend liberals being tax and spend liberals, same as it ever was. An executive not seeing eye to eye with a legislature and shutting down government isnt a sign of disaster or calamity despite your liberal instincts. It actually a sign of healthy democracy.
