And yet, not Hitler.

I didn't make that cheap-ass argument, except to point out the utter ridiculousness of claiming "Marxism" in the Sanders campaign.Okeefenokee wrote:And yet, not Hitler.

I didn't call them marxists. I called them socialists, and it's what they are. They hate success. They want to punish those with the temerity to succeed by seizing their wealth and giving it to the idle dregs. Ask one of them. They'll tell you. I go to school with them. They are all on board with the seizure of wealth if it means it gets funneled to them. I accurately described them.GrumpyCatFace wrote:I didn't make that cheap-ass argument, except to point out the utter ridiculousness of claiming "Marxism" in the Sanders campaign.Okeefenokee wrote:And yet, not Hitler.
You equated the enforcement of law that goes on in every nation around the world as Hitlerian extremism.

I take serious exception to this. The socialists I know don't want to punish success, they just want to acknowledge that the CEO didn't create success in a vacuum, all by his/her little ole' self, on the golf course.....Okeefenokee wrote: I called them socialists, and it's what they are. What is wrong with wanting to share the success with the employee? Certainly when companies start talking bankruptcy, employees are asked to take a pay cut.... what's wrong with quid pro quo in the form of profit sharing?
Now, I'm not sure where I fall on this; I see both sides. Calling them haters of success, though, is disingenuous at best. Share the joy and the pain, eh?

Keep your shirt on.
I'm talking about a specific portion of the left that latched onto Bernie Sanders because he promised to take all the wealth from all those evil people who didn't deserve it, because no one makes any money who actually deserves it, and he told him he was gonna give it all to them.
I know these people. They understood what they were voting for. I asked them if they understood nothing they were being promised was gonna be free, that someone else was going to have to pay for it. They are very clear on that. They know. They don't care. They see that college debt stacking up. If you tell them you'll pay for it, they'll vote for you.
I don't see these people taking over, though. I'm not saying it's the end times. Bernie lost. More people on the left were on board with big business Hillary.

Do you foresee any possibility of these sentiments coming back stronger in 2020? Trump, in some ways, is the antithesis of these ideas. So after 4 years the pendulum may swing far left, putting a Bernie-like candidate on the ballot, but this time the actual nominee, or president.Okeefenokee wrote:Keep your shirt on.

I'm less inclined to think it will happen seeing the Dems double down with moves like keeping Pelosi in charge.

I hope you're right. That drastic of a shift in either direction could be pretty disconcerting.Okeefenokee wrote:I'm less inclined to think it will happen seeing the Dems double down with moves like keeping Pelosi in charge.
