I've never been a music snob

that's not a Gen X thing, we didn't have musical tribes, we were into everything all at once

it wasn't like Grunge or Hip Hop, it was both, the rock bands & hip hop acts were at the same concerts

Nonsense. Gen X popularized the "I heard them before they were big" attitude of music snobbery. The only reason Gen X didn't have musical tribes is because that was when radio stations stopped playing specific genres and radio play got flattened. We are now blessed to have musical tribes again because the internet allows US to find the music we LIKE, instead of just listening to whatever Clear Channel says we have to. Same reason 90s music sucks, incidentally.

Sorry buddy, music snobbery is another trash attitude of Gen X culture. But, it isn't their fault. They had to be snobs because everything being created in the 80s and 90s was garbage. They had to #resist.

there were no restrictions on what music was "cool" tho, there was no firewalls between genres

to the generational point, you are ceding that Millennials adopted Gen X music snob culture

like a say, Millennial culture is just Gen X culture on steroids

Probably the only thing worth keeping from Gen X, to be honest. Snobbery is required for quality - Gen X just wasn't good enough at it. Needed millennials to do it right.
