Re: THE ERA OF TRUMP
If I'm wrong I'll admit it, but I made my living on the first office pcs. I graduated in 77 and there were no pcs in the school. A couple of years later they were in offices. I saved my work on huge floppy disks and had to constantly maintain the pcs using early DOS. There were only a handful of commands. The internet came a few years later, and iirc it was an intranet first and then expanded.Smitty-48 wrote:PC's never took off in the 70's and early 80's, PC's didn't take off until the late 80's, Boomers weren't driving it, it was Gen X, the Internet is obviously Gen X as well, since it didn't take off until the 90's.MilSpecs wrote:I also remember it, but it definitely started as an available technology in the late 70s early 80s. That would put it as late boomers early Gen x. My kids are the first generation to not remember things any other way (millenials).Smitty-48 wrote:
Quite frankly, the Boomers not only did not invent the Internet and PC, they didn't dispense it neither, the Boomers pretty much shunned computers, it was invented by GG's and War Baby's, it was Gen X who embraced it, then the Millenials who inhereted what Gen X passed down to them.
I lived through the birth of this age, and the Boomers were the least involved, it was Gen X who made it happen, not the Boomers.
You're just wrong, there's no point in being a dickhead about it, unless you're simply incapable of admitting in good faith when you are wrong, at which point, seek therapy I guess.

If you're going to get that technical, then technically, the first computer was actually invented by Charles Babbage, the Analytical Machine, 1833-1871.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Credit for the original computer, of course, goes to a gay man - one Alan Turing, who created it to crack Enigma..Smitty-48 wrote:The Personal Computer was also not a Boomer, Ed Roberts at IBM, another War Baby, even Bill Gates and Paul Allen aknowledge him as the "Father of the Personal Computer"

He never actually built it though. Just came up with an idea that probably would have worked.Smitty-48 wrote:If you're going to get that technical, then technically, the first computer was actually invented by Charles Babbage, the Analytical Machine, 1833-1871.GrumpyCatFace wrote:Credit for the original computer, of course, goes to a gay man - one Alan Turing, who created it to crack Enigma..Smitty-48 wrote:The Personal Computer was also not a Boomer, Ed Roberts at IBM, another War Baby, even Bill Gates and Paul Allen aknowledge him as the "Father of the Personal Computer"

My uncle gave me his old 64 and a PCXT when I was about 13. Grandmama already had a HP with a 200Mhz Pentium. Grandmama was born in the thirties. I need to call her.Smitty-48 wrote:Even when we Gen Xers were on the Commodore 64 back in the 80's, there were no Boomers around, the Commodore 64 was in the kids room, the Boomers were downstairs smoking dope and playing the Rolling Stones on vinyl. Only wealthy people could afford Mac, there were Mac's around, but not many. My buddy had one, his dad was a lawyer, but nobody else I knew had one.Okeefenokee wrote:That's not true. Millenials start at 82. Five years older than me, and I was ten when computers and internet blew up. Macs were around, but it wasn't until about windows 95 that shit really got hot. The first time I saw the internet was when my PE teacher went around setting up yahoo accounts for all the teachers in 5th grade. A year later I saw my first PC.

Computers in the office; neither invented by Boomers, nor dispersed by them, your claims were "invented", followed by you backpedalling to "dispersed", the Boomers were handed the PC by the GG's/War Babies, then Gen X brought the PC to the home and went on the Internet with them, Boomers were skipped over in the process of birthing the age we are in now, so again; your blatant goalpost shifting notwithstanding, you're still wrong.MilSpecs wrote:
