They did, and for that reason. It was a matter of how the bureaucracy handles extended illegal family of citizens IMO.Penner wrote:But don't some on the right already want to get rid of the 14th amendment because they fear "anchor babies"? I think this was a big topic a few years ago and a lot of people on the right really wanted to get rid of birthright citizenship.TheReal_ND wrote:Boomers and their "Magic Soil" everybody
Both Democrats and Republicans have introduced legislation aimed at narrowing the application of the Citizenship Clause. In 1993, Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) introduced legislation that would limit birthright citizenship to the children of U.S. citizens and legally resident aliens, and similar bills have been introduced by other legislators in every Congress since.[73

The US is the only country in the first world to grant birthright citizenship. Is it really so appalling to criticize the practice, when the rest of western civilization doesn't do things that way?MilSpecs wrote:His stance on birthright citizenship is not hateful, but wanting to strip citizens of their citizenship is pretty appalling. You have to betray the country or pledge fealty to a foreign power to get kicked out. But wait, let me think about this for a minute....

Using the money that they inherited from us, no doubt.TheReal_ND wrote:Boomers pretty much shit the bed on immigration. When they finally die off, the people actually effected by their treasonous policies will sort it out.

I once heard that Germany will grant anyone who can prove they have German ancestry. Why do you think it's appalling to grant birthright citizenship to a country where 99% of it's people have immigrant ancestors?StCapps wrote:The US is the only country in the first world to grant birthright citizenship. Don't make me laugh. My bad. I thought you use to identify as Irish and thought maybe you cared about it. Perhaps not. Carry on.Penner wrote:My home country is America- what are you talking about Nuke?TheReal_ND wrote:Ireland has halved in population since the famine. I know we do things differently, but I have no problem with it. It's part of our heritage. We're all supposed to be equal citizens as our birthright - who our ancestors were is supposed to have nothing to do with our status as Americans. Same thing with naturalized citizens.StCapps wrote:The US is the only country in the first world to grant birthright citizenship. Re: THE ERA OF TRUMP
I very much doubt that on average boomers will leave more than they themselves received from their parents inheritance. Most of it got spent already as it is, and they are cashing out on their property with reverse mortgages to boot.
While it's their money to burn as the please, I do recall seeing a lot of boomers while I grew up receive massive inheritences from their greatest generation parents, who saved each month to advance their kids.
Don't take that as a personal attack if you are a boomer. I am talking about generalities here rather than specific individuals. In aggregate, boomers have been more like a locust generation than anything else.
