If they do get their independence they can call it anything they want. The Irish call their country, Republic of Ireland, and not Erie. For the Basque, they could keep it Basque or they would do what the Irish did and just keep it the same. Or they do what Myanmar did and rename their country.

The original name of their kingdom was Navarra. Basque is the language they speak.

I think they have a case for independence since they were subsumed by violence in the Spanish Empire and the modern nation state of Spain isn't exactly doing much for them (neither is the portion of Navarra controlled by France).

I think we need a lot of breaking up to turn this globalist nonsense around. That's just me, though.

If there is will, there is a way.

I think nowdays there might not be that will in Europe, people have their stomach full, the services are OK and so forth.

Best example was Scotland. I noticed it when those wanting Scottish independence started to downplay the actual effects of it and started soothing people that everything would be as before even after independence. Something like independence-lite. With independence-lite you won't be ready to give the ultimate sacrifice, you life, for something like Independence of your country.

Some derange idiots might form a terrorist organization to chase their fantasies, but that isn't a popular revolt.

Yet for a people to rise up for independence, something has to really, really suck with the old country.

Something to note is that Scotland isn't nearly as wealthy is the Basque autonomous community is.

The Basques are the 2nd biggest ethnic group in the world without a homeland behind the Kurds, and one of the most interesting ethnic groups.

They have their own ancient martial arts form called Zipota. It combined the standard Basque walking stick and their own strange S shaped knife, plus French kick attacks. Really unique stuff.

I'm not sure if 2,8 million or so make it the 2nd biggest ethnic group which has tried to get independence. The Uyghurs in China make up to 11-15 million. Tamils are far more bigger (If you add those in India and not only those in Sri Lanka). Kashmir has also a lot more people. The list goes on...

Basques are a very small group.

Hell, there's 40 million Californians that want their independence. (More than all of Canada.)

Speaking of Canada Quebec tried to vote for separation.
