I don't know when you've told us that, but I couldn't agree more. I've been saying the same for years.Speaker to Animals wrote:That's what I keep trying to tell you guys. Not only are banks unnecessary to capitalism, they are fucking killing us.
Banks + government = no actual consequences to the risk takers.

I've been flipping through this collection of Ray Bradbury short stories in my spare time, they're good. Not much to say about them but this is the book I'm reading at the moment so I thought I would share

Indian Country by Kurt Schlicter
Just finished this book, I really enjoyed it and I recommend it. Set about a decade in the future, it tells the street level view of the USA after what is best described as a Red-Blue map split into two countries. Red States retain the name United States of America, Blue States adopt the name People Republic of North America.
The book takes place in Southern Indiana where a large number of 'red' Americans have been trapped in 'blue' terriortory after the split. The PR(peoples republic) is dominated by Solial Justice. Schlicter gives us a view of what an America dominated by Social Justice would look like and Elizabeth Warren as President. Its contemporary and relevant.
Indian Country is actually the prequel to Peoples Republic. I just ordered PR and will be reading it next.
$10 Kindle, $15 paperback

I liked Peoples' Republic better.
Schlichter is creative, not afraid, and pretty funny. The Indiana book was a bit gratuitous for me; but a fun romp nonetheless.

Fiction set in India post 9/11 and the India/Kashmir conflict.
Pits ancient traditions against modern worldview in interesting ways.
Great character development... riffs along gabriel garcia marquez style

Dense book covering the latest research that should inform our approaches to psychotherapy from a neuroscience and behavioural science perspective and a theoretical model that would incorporate all of this better.
Hard to read... a slog through the first few chapters but it's getting better... I'm feeling it will be worthwhile now.
I saw an overview of his theoretical model which prompted me to buy this book... so I am determined to crunch through.

What I love about Indian Country is it takes Social Justice to its logical conclusion. Everything is renamed, BHO statue replaces Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial, mere charges of racism, sexism, gender phobia will get you locked up. White males are the devil.

Neurology and "science" in general bores me for the most part. Therapy is an art not a science, no?DrYouth wrote:

Has anyone here read The Phenomenon of Man by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin? Is it worth reading or is there a better way to get into his theories?
