There's not even one yet, the Carl Vinson is not off Korea as of now, it's actually in the Sunda Strait off of Indonesia, 3,500 miles away, so, at this juncture; "ZOMG strike groups!" is actually fake news.

Wish I could find the article I was reading last week. The writer proposed a theory I hadn't considered involving Trump flipping the script on North Korea. The basic idea was he may be preparing to reverse the roles of the two nations. Instead of North Korea saber rattling and demanding more free stuff every couple of years, the carrier group becomes our saber to rattle when we want concessions from North Korea. Along the lines of "If you want one less battleship parked right off your shore you better give us X".

I don't lend it much credence, but it was a theory I hadn't heard of before. Unfortunately, high pressure bargaining requires dealing with a rational actor who has the "flexibility" to cut deals with you. I'm not sure the Kim Jong Un has either. You can't shred your military officers with AA guns and feed your uncle to dogs, then turn around and start caving in to naval threats. There are already too many knives out for you among your own people to look weak.

I just don't understand what our end game is. Are we just going to keep these carrier groups stationed there permanently? That seems unlikely.

It all seems like fake news right now, just viewing the big board here in the frozen fortress; there's no real movement going on, US forces are showing no signs whatsoever that they are gearing up for a war, there's a whole lotta media hype, but there's no there there, it's all DEFCON Five as far as the eye can see, and if you were actually going to war in Korea, it would be DEFCON Four at least by now, just by default.

His military actions come so quickly and unexpectedly, even he is surprised by them.

Even without telegraphing, there would still be movement, for a war in Korea, it would take them weeks if not months to get it all warmed up, so maybe they will get there at some point, but as of now, they haven't even pulled out of the garage, can't just get it all ready overnight, they are weeks away from anything, even if they went absolutely flat out, starting tonight.

But reality check, they are in fact telegraphing, they are rattling sabers to beat the band, but with no actual movement, so that's not just telegraphing, that's called fake news.

"Not telegraphing" doesn't mean they go from zero to all out war, overnight, not telegraphing would look like what Reagan did at the North Cape in 81', sure, they went radio silent and broke across the G-I-UK Gap without warning, all the way into the Barents, but they still assembled the biggest fleet in the history of NATO before they did, "not telegraphing" is hiding where you would be going, but you can't hide the build up prior to, the Pentagon is not going to war in Korea, without overwhelming force, and overwhelming force, is impossible to keep under wraps, there would be huge movement, worldwide, and as of right now, there's no movement at all.
