Re: The Tweet is Undefendable
Well, when the game ends with everyone doxxing everyone, everyone being doxxed, and shit all over everyone's shoes and tracked through everyone's home, who won?
I'd like to see the scorecard on that.
Because it started out as CNN losing for threatening a private citizen.
Then it turned into angry private citizens doxxing and harassing reporters who they were accusing of threatening to doxx someone.
Cue the cuckoo music.

From a PR standpoint, CNN comes out looking really cowardly

But that battle was won before the ensuing "doxx the reporters" antics, right?
Like - that was a victory already in hand.

No, it wasn't. They don't get it till you throw their tactics right in their faces.DBTrek wrote:RIght on.heydaralon wrote:From a PR standpoint, CNN comes out looking really cowardly

That argument would have more of a leg to stand on if this was the first and only time Trump and CNN went at it. But CNN and the rest of media tried to quash Trump awhile ago, after they built him up in the primaries, but that's another matter.California wrote:The perception of power imbalance is also why people are saying that Trump's critical tweets of the Press are somehow chilling the 1A

Re: The Tweet is Undefendable
Imagine how CNN would have reacted if Trump had threatened to dox someone on /r/politicalhumor because they made a meme that mocked him. I have a feeling they would be talking about the end of the Republic etc.
This isn't the first time CNN has done this either. There was some guy years ago making lewd comments somewhere (twitter I think) that Anderson Cooper took delight in doxing and humiliating him. I think the guy lost his job. I remember watching that and thinking, "Out of everything in the world to cover, this is the most pressing? Some guy trolling online?" I think that guy was a creep, but still.
If the redditor had been making threats against CNN or distributing kiddie porn that would be one thing. But that meme was not even especially inflammatory. When big entities go after little people, that is never a battle they will win in the court of public opinion.
Its also weird that the self aggrandizing press pretends to be so big on free speech, until people exercise that right in a way that mildly affects them.

This also hasn't stopped the memeing.
How is this chilling the 1A? Is this violence against CNN?

thats the dude.
A lot of this stuff is revolting, so I'm not defending the guy on a personal level.

Ah yes Gawker, another case of "chilling" the 1A. But why is no one mourning them? Because fuck them.Last week, Gawker revealed the identity of "Violentacrez,"
