I'm not huge on non spicy peppers. They don't taste bad, they just taste kind of boring like carrots or something. I can eat them no problem, but I have to force myself to.Nukedog wrote:They lose vitamins but they are far harder to digest uncooked, depending on the food like all foods.
Green bell peppers are the ones with more b6 iirc. You're right, each color has a different vitamin complex. Bell peppers and beef has always been my goal for a diet tbh. I've settled on milk for a panacea for my shitty diet.

I used ace potting soil to plant them. No clay. Perhaps I watered them too much dude. I'm going to look into that. I wonder if I could put some kind of netting on them or something to keep them drier, although that might have the opposite effect. I'm growing habaneros next. I love me some spicy peppers. Can you grow peppers in Ohio climate?GrumpyCatFace wrote:If you live in a wet climate, that's pretty typical. Peppers need a bit of dryness, to get really hot. Also, if you have clay soil, it can hold a lot of water as well. Try tilling your garden deep, with a bunch of compost next spring, to loosen it up.heydaralon wrote: I am growing jalapenos and banana peppers atm. They somehow turned out not hot at all. They are positively mild, and eating the seeds only gives the slightest heat. Its weird. I fucked up somehow. I love hot peppers.

I am not sure about this site, but this list looks pretty good:

Good explanations for why you actually need to eat a lot of these veggies.

I have gotten a bit of a green thumb (a very light green) over the last 2 years. I have successfully grown kale, arugula, scotch bonnet jalapeno banana peppers, sweet potatoes, scallions, rosemary, and mint. I cannot grow tomatoes well because the sun or slugs and caterpillars always fuck with them. These are those tiny tomatoes. Florida doesn't take too kindly to them. I have managed to salvage a couple of handfuls of them, but the pests love those things.
It feels very satisfying to be able to eat the things you grow. Not sure if its even cost effective, but I like the feeling a lot. Gives me a sense of pride, as dumb as that sounds.

It's more for texture with bell peppers imo. A little garnish. They are a good veggie with lots of good nutrients.heydaralon wrote:I'm not huge on non spicy peppers. I'm not much of a cheese guy, but I've heard haloumi is more salty than cheesy. I like blue cheese and goat cheese and pepperjack is good for burgers and sandwiches. I will give the Cypriot cheese a chance sometime.Montegriffo wrote:Broccoli, haloumi and sun dried tomato kebabs cooked on the barbeque beats cheap puss burgers any day of the week for flavour and easily contains more nutrients than any meat product.

Go the bean route. You can do a shitload of things with beans and rice. Black beans can be put into meat as well which saves money and you get extra protein that way. I used to make black bean tacos and add adobo and hot sauce.Speaker to Animals wrote:I might actually pick up one of those weird broccolis tomorrow if I can find it. That article said it was sweeter than regular broccoli so maybe it's not so nasty.
I have been meaning to increase my veggies intake even more while reducing the potato/rice intake while I cut.

Read that article I linked. it's best to try to get all your daily requirements of micro-nutrients from your foods, and that means a lot of different kinds of vegetables.

I use avocados in salads. Did not know they had significant nutritional value. My neighbors have an avocado tree. I love guac and I've been wanting to plant one for awhile. Garlic is delicious. Not really big on Cauliflower and beets are bullshit. Shit I don't think I'd eat a beet unless Stalin sent me to Kolyma.Speaker to Animals wrote:heydaralon wrote:Go the bean route. I have a shitload of papaya trees in my yard. If you throw the seeds randomly, the trees will spring up everywhere. They have a hollow trunk that decomposes quickly. Very resilient plant. Almost like a weed. I like the way it tastes though.
