Just listened to the audio, that does sound like a bump stock mod, you're right, factory mil spec full auto M16 sounds different, different frequency of shots, the bump stock seems to make the auto fire speed up and slow down, like a warble, whereas mil spec starts slow and then speeds up, smoothly, the cyclic rate increases, 700-950 rpm, but it doesn't warble like that.Speaker to Animals wrote:From the audio I heard he just sprayed using a bumper stock. It didn't sound mechanical like when you switch an M16 to full auto. It was erratic like he was using one of those stocks.Smitty-48 wrote:Well the guy hit almost six hundred people, so he had plenty of time and space to kill them all, apparently he just didn't take his time and use single aimed shots, one one thousand, bang, two one thousand, bang, nice n' easy, in a rythm, which, thank goodness for that, it's just a good thing that the people who are so far gone as to pull a stunt like this, aren't the tier one professionals.
I mean, definitely wasn't the CIA, if the CIA was going to pull a stunt like that, sho as shit they'd take their time and kill everything they were aiming at, bet dat.
If he took his time, I bet he'd have killed more people. The left will try to argue it was worse because he simulated full-auto with those stocks, but I think it would have been worse if he didn't use that and bothered to actually aim and hit targets.
And using automatic fire from 500 yards or whatever, that literally saved dozens of lives, using automatic fire from there is just wasting ammo. The audio I'm listening too, he's not even firing bursts, he's just emptying the whole mag, which, even if you get hit, as likely to hit you in the ankle as it is to hit you in the vitals, as opposed to deliberate fire with single aimed shots supported, which would be at least torso every time, if not headshots.
At 500 yards, full auto empty the mag of 5-5-6, as opposed to single aimed shots with 7-6-2, just got lucky, that this guy wasn't a pro.

Using that thing could become a very expensive hobby.

Plus there's only one tactical reason to ever employ full auto fire with a rifle, and that's counter ambush at point blank, break contact inside 25 meters, other than that, there's no reason to ever go "auto" on your M16, if you come through the door, and you realize you need to get back out again right quick, OK, you can lay down the whole mag as you jump back out of the room, but other than that, I can't think of any scenario to empty your mag on auto.
Full auto rifle fire is a break contact drill, like jungle close, they're right on top of you, surprise contact, first man empty the mag, peel back, the whole patrol follows suit, but that's pretty much extremis, other than that, you're just wasting ammo.

Russians favored it for the ability to quickly send rounds down range while the men were still alive because they favored Zerg rushes. At least that's what a TV program told me years ago. I've always viewed the less accurate, more robust AK platform as an extension of that philosophy.

So, did find a reason why a multi-millionaire went on a killing spree?

Full auto fire in general is 90% supression, even with a machine gun, the purpose is simply to get them to duck and keep their heads down, so you can maneuver, with a 5-5-6 carbine, it's only effective point blank, for a team peel back, first tactical bound you empty the mags for shock effect, just to stun them with a wall of fire, then you switch back to double taps once you've bought yourselves some space and had some time to find the targets, you empty the mag and then peel off, you're changing mags on the fly, when you're a tactical bound away, then you can engage with sustained fire and movement, one, two, three, four patrolman, 120 rounds down range point blank to break close contact, then back to skirmishing.
This is what it looks like, sometimes called an "Aussie Peelback"
