The fee's collected from the licence and selling programs abroad are spent on programming. There is no-one collecting the profits and the government doesn't get it's hands on a single penny. What's not to like?
So the BBC is more or less like HBO?
Your government doesn't steal from itself to fund other things? Here in the US we'd pay a license and none of it would actually go for the TV, it would be lost in the general fund somewhere
