It's true, the writing has become terrible, this will not wrap up in a tight package at all, but will just be more of the same crap.

SPOILER AHEAD

When Sansa ordered Littlefinger to death instead of her sister, I actually laughed out loud it was so dumb and ridiculous.

The old GoT would also have had Jamie brutally murdered, which would have been cool.

Jon Snow has the charisma of a frozen waffle.

Getting all 3 leaders to to gather for a grand negotiation should be exciting and interesting, but it wasn't at all.

Am I really supposed to think dragon-ing down the ice wall is an exciting finale here? It's gotta be about characters, their relationships, etc., not a CGI ice melt.

Can dragon fire melt ice beams? IT WAS AN INSIDE JOB

Blue dragon fire, that will be called "Ice Fire" or something similar. But it's maybe cold, but it maybe takes down an ice wall too, because writers.

Jon Snow is fucking awesome, shut up.

Seriously, I cannot understand why anyone wants to sit through that.
It gets better every season, the first season is a little bleak and some hate on it for that, but if you can't sit through that, then you're probably a pussy who can't take an emotional gut punch. Whatever, your loss, that show is better than Game of Thrones, even in the first season, you're probably just pissed that Shaq departed.

Plus it's Lindelof's redemption for a shitty ending to LOST, he learned some valuable lessons and it payed big dividends in The Leftovers. So far, it's the best show on TV this year, and I don't expect it will get knocked off that perch before the year ends, it's pretty much a lock.

Started watching Penny Dreadful. One season in now. It's pretty fun, but I'm a fan of the genre and pretty forgiving. There are inconsistencies and plot holes galore and Timothy Dalton has the acting chops of an old log but Eva Green and Josh Hartnett are brilliant.
I like the structure of it. We are thrown right into the action and later get frequent lookbacks. Sometimes an entire episode.
Worth the time for me.

You said yourself, they ran out of material, yet you want to stretch out the material they did have over like 3x the length that the show currently is? That makes no sense, wrap it up before it actually does fall off a cliff, not after. The actors also age, and this prevents them playing the roles for that long because they will age out of them, there are a bunch of logistical issues that your approach would cause.

What dramatic television show, with a continuing story arch, has ever been good for whole time that it lasted 15+ seasons? I can't think of one, yet you still think it would be a good idea? You crazy fool.
GrumpyCatFace wrote:And HBO would get 15+ seasons of subscriptions, rather than a massive drop next year.
Or would people become so bored with the show moving at that pace that they won't get many seasons extra out of it at all? I'm thinking that's what would happen under the GCF plan. If quality is what you are after, then making the show 15+ seasons won't make it better, and if money is what you are after than you still want to wrap everything up in somewhat timely fashion and not milk the entire franchise dry, especially when you have spinoffs in the works.
GrumpyCatFace wrote:And people might just get a little bit smarter, a little less tolerant of commercials, and a little more engaged in shows that take the time to build a coherent narrative.
Nah, they'll just get bored and the show won't be the hit show you've come to know, the average person is not going to get smarter and demand HBO release a fantasy TV show that actually is the best show on TV, just because you ruined the one they used to enjoy. That's not how it works. Y'all just need to get over the fact the GoT is not as good as The Sopranos, the sooner y'all do that the better, ruining GoT will not make it as good as The Sopranos either, that's not a solution to any problem.
But The Sopranos sucked in the late seasons because it only seemed like they were constantly building up for something to happen but *something* would only happen once in every season of 10 episodes.

If you want to the talk about shit endings though look no further than Deadwood.

The Sopranos never sucked, it did meander on occasion, and isn't as tight of a story as Breaking Bad or The Wire, but it's still easily one of the top 3 tv dramas of all time.

That's because they cancelled it before it got a chance to wrap things up properly, we're lucky the same thing didn't happen to The Wire, given in it's ratings. You can thank The Sopranos that The Wire lasted longer than a season, hell you can probably thank them for the project getting greenlit at all.

The Sopranos has impacted the medium of television more than any other TV drama ever has, without it, there would be no golden age of television. Without The Sopranos most of our favourite TV shows wouldn't even exist, that's how fucking important that show is. Never sleep on the greatness of The Sopranos.

Pleb af

The ending was much better than I expected it to be and I never expected it to be satisfying. The characters are more of the focus than the plot or mystery of what happened and the show even make what I consider meta jokes about explaining the disappearances.

+1 to that. For an extra long season finale episode it wasn't satisfying. They've just got to wrap the show up now and be done with it.

As the show lightens up the farther the characters get from the Departure, the show really begins to hit it's stride as it finds the balance between the dark and light moments of the show. Can't recommend that show highly enough, Lindelof finally nailed the ending of a television show, helping make up for past mistakes that he made when bringing LOST to a conclusion.

I have to go back and watch that series again. This time I can skip through the slow parts like Paulo and what's her name.
