Probably. McCain helped speed up the sport cleaning up it's act, so history has vindicated him on that political grandstanding he did regarding it, leading to it getting banned in many states. Some MMA fans still hold a grudge against him for that, not me though, there are so many better reasons to hate on McCain, and MMA is better for it these days.
Do you think in our lifetimes (American) football will be banned or regulated in such a way that will make it downright boring to watch? It is an immensely profitable and popular sport right now, but there are also a bunch of Malcolm Gladwell types that cry the blues about it being dangerous.
Already happened.

You can't even compare the defensive destruction of the 90s and early 00s to today. It's pussy ball, comparatively.

The sport has changed because they're not allowed to choke or do a number of things now. Gotta make it good for tv.
Royce Gracie is a one dimensional fighter who Jose Aldo would punt through the cage while soccer kicking him in the face, even with the size disparity. You don't know anything about fighting, or who is good at it. You're over two decades behind the times, go back in a time machine and get Royce Gracie in his prime and he won't even make the UFC today, especially at 170 pounds, that's how much the sport has passed him by.

Of course he wouldn't. Because he's not allowed to do what he did best.

That was really 3 reasons, not 10.

1. Unorthodox, and hard to pace

The main one being: unorthodox and hard to pace. I just don't know if it will work the way people think, since a lot of the unorthodox moves are great in MMA due to the more varied angles of attack, but will be pretty pointless in strict boxing. Eg. McGregor can control range when a clinch has a combat application, but Mayweather knows how to get inside and jam up an opponent that isn't allowed to knee or grapple.

He should come out in that Karate stance of his, it's worth it just to show Floyd he hasn't had to deal with before. Being meat and potatoes with the boxing is sure fire path to defeat, attack from angles boxers aren't used to seeing, and pray Floyd falls for it.

None of the shit Royce was good at is banned in today's MMA, what are you talking about? Even if the rules hadn't changed at all, Jose Aldo would still curb stomp Royce Gracie, he'd kick his head right through the canvas.

For sure. McGregor is never going to out technique Mayweather with straight boxing. I am actually really curious how McGregor's side-on stance is going to work. I mean... it isn't really something that a lot of people do in MMA either, and for good reason, but he makes it work because he is some sort of violence savant.

But still, dollars to doughnuts, I would bet on Mayweather if I were a betting man. Almost certainly decision, but still Mayweather.

A lot of chokes are equipment based, and nobody in MMA wears a gi anymore... so I guess there is that.
