After they were forced out of Chapultepec, according to the Mexica myth, the Aztecs wandered for weeks, searching for a place to settle. Huitzilopochtli appeared to the Mexica leaders and indicated a place where a great eagle was perched on a cactus killing a snake. This place, smack dab in the middle of a marsh with no proper ground at all, was where the Mexica founded their capital, Tenochtitlán. The year was 2 Calli (Two House) in the Aztec calendar, which translates in our modern calendars to AD 1325.

The apparently unfortunate position of their city, in the middle of a marsh, actually facilitated economic connections and protected Tenochtitlán from military attacks by restricting access to the site by canoe or boat traffic. Tenochtitlán grew rapidly as both a commercial and military center. The Mexica were skillful and fierce soldiers and, despite the story of the Culhua princess, they were also able politicians who created solid alliances with the surrounding cities.

What you ninnies don't seem to get is that I greatly admire other cultures. I want to preserve them. You are talking about destroying entire races and cultures for your feelz, and you wonder why anybody might balk at your Orwellian language.

Diversity means you have different cultures, which implies preservation of differences, which in turn implies boundaries and borders. What you call "diversity" is the opposite thereof. You seek to destroy cultures and races, and you accuse people who want to preserve them of being racists. It's the opposite topsy-turvy land of liberal women. Maybe universal enfranchisement was a mistake, because I don't see any light at the end of this particular tunnel.

Did the sign at the border change back to New Spain or are they calling themselves what they called themselves before Europeans ever set foot on this continent?

They are Mexica. That's what they were before Cortez came. The Europeans had a good run for about 300 years, but the Mexica kicked their asses out and are now stronger than before.

Same thing happened in South America.

Their conversion to Catholicism had nothing to do with the Europeans as well. It happened in spite of them. It was one of those weird events in history (Our Lady of Guadalupe). The only parallel that I know of was the mass conversion of the Roman empire.

Nor does being Catholic make you Western. Hence the meaning of the word catholic -- i.e. universal. Our European ancestors used to be a bunch of human-sacrificing savages before we converted too. You have no argument.
